Monroe's Sydney Hilliard has been selected as the top senior Point Guard as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards

Hilliard (6-0) is a very unselfish and competitive player and a playmaker both ends of the floor. She can score it in a number of ways; has a really good mid-range game, can score from the post and from behind the arc. She is a very good rebounder from the guard spot and strong on the defensive end of the floor; her length and quick hands allow her to get steals and deflections.

The University of Wisconsin recruit is averaging 21.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game for coach Sam Mathiason and the Cheesemakers.

Hilliard scored a season-high 32 points in a 63-52 win over Stoughton in December. In Division 2 sectional wins over DeForest and Milton, she netted 31 points in each of the games.

She is shooting 63 percent from the floor, 82.8 percent from the free throw line, and is 22-for-50 from behind the arc this season.

Hilliard has led Monroe to three consecutive trips to the state tournament. The Cheesemakers, 20-6, play Whitefish Bay in a Division 2 state semifinal on Friday.

Entering the state tournament, she has career totals of 1,943 points, 682 rebounds, 330 assists and 303 steals.
