D1 State Semi-Final Notes: Middleton and Bay Port meet in the state championship game

Middleton pulled off the upset of top-seed Mukwonago in a state semifinal, 62-53 on Friday evening at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

The Cardinals were big underdogs heading into the contest against Mukwonago, but they used that to their advantage and started the game strong and continued it throughout the game to earn the victory.

Mukwonago had lost just one game prior to last night and were ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll for much of the season. 

Middleton led 30-27 at the break behind the strong play of senior Hannah Flottmeyer, who had 11 points and 4 rebounds at halftime. 

The second half was a back-and-forth, but Middleton took the lead for good when junior Sitori Tanin, who has a handful of Division I offers, knocked down a pair of free throws with 4:19 to play. 

The Cardinals sealed the game at the line going 7-for-10 in the last 3:20 of the game. 

Middleton was led in scoring by junior Evie Coleman, who finished with a game-high 19 points. She went 6-for-10 from the floor and 5 of 9 from behind the arc. 

Flottmeyer totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Tanin finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Mukwonago was led by seniors Grace Beyer and Natalie Andersen, an IUPUI recruit, who finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the loss. 

Middleton and WBCA Hall of Fame Coach Jeff King are looking for their first gold ball in program history. 

The Cardinals meet Bay Port in the Division 1 state championship game. Bay Port is also in search of its first gold ball in program history. 

Bay Port is headed to the state championship game for the first time in program history.

The Pirates topped Kimberly, 63-53, to advance to play Middleton in the title game. 

Bay Port held a 26-25 lead at the break. Junior forward Emma Nagel had a double-double at halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Pirates led the entire second half and led by as many as 14 points before earning a 10-point win over Kimberly. 

Nagel, a Drake soccer recruit, finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks to lead Bay Port. 

Fellow juniors Raegan McIntyre netted 13 points and McKenzie Johnson scored 11 points for the Pirates. 

Kimberly was led by senior Shea Dechant who finished with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Sophomore Maddy Schreiber, who holds numerous Division I offers, tallied 15 points and 4 rebounds for the Papermakers. 

Kimberly lost a couple players to injury in junior Taylor Hietpas and senior Kennedy Litvinoff, neither played in the second half. 

Bay Port meets Middleton in the Division 1 state championship game. Both teams are looking for their first state title in program history.
