WBCA announces Division 5 Girls Basketball All-State Team

Makaylee Kuhn of Hilbert and Jen Wendler of Owen-Withee have been selected as unanimous selections on the 2019 WBCA Division 4 all-state team. 

Wendler, Alison Leslie of Clayton, Natalie Leuzinger of Black Hawk and Bailey Butler of Black Hawk are all repeat first-team picks. 

Kuhn, an honorable mention all-state pick last season, led Hilbert to a sectional final appearance. The senior and Northern Michigan recruit averaged 19.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.7 steals per game for coach Jamie Wiese and the Wolves. Hilbert finished 14-13 overall, playing in the Big East which is made up of many Division 4 teams. 

Wendler is a three-time first-team all-state selection. The senior and Youngstown State recruit averaged 23.2 points and 13 rebounds per game for WBCA Hall of Fame coach Al Guthman and the Blackhawks. Owen-Withee finished the year with a 17-6 record. 

Leslie has taken home all-state honors in each of her last three seasons. The senior and Ripon College recruit led the Bears to four state tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish this season. Alison averaged 14 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for coach Kevin Fall and the Bears. Clayton finished the year with a 27-1 record. 

Leuzinger is a three-time first-team all-state choice. She helped lead Black Hawk to its first state title in program history and a perfect 28-0 record this season. Natalie averaged 18.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.7 steals per game for coach Mike Flanagan and the Warriors. 

Butler, a Division I prospect, has earned fist-team all-state in each of her first two years. The sophomore helped lead the Warriors to the state title after finishing last season as the state runner-up. Bailey averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 4.6 steals per game for coach Mike Flanagan and the Warriors. 

Hannah Butler of Black Hawk helped the Warriors capture its first state title in program history. The junior averaged 14.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.9 steals per game. 

Jordyn Hutzler of Rio led the Vikings to a 18-7 record. The senior averaged 21.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3 assists and 6.2 steals per game for coach and mother Deb Hutzler. 

Kailey Ketz, an honorable mention all-state pick last season, helped lead Clayton to four consecutive state tournament appearances, including a state runner-up finish this year. The senior averaged 14.8 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game for the 27-1 Bears. 

Brianna Nelson led Eleva-Strum to a sectional appearance. The junior averaged 14.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 4.5 steals per contest for coach and father Darrin Nelson. The Cardinals ended the year with a 20-4 record. 

Julia Seidel helped lead Newman Catholic to its second consecutive state tournament appearance. The junior averaged 14.2 points, 5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game for coach Jason Vanden Elzen and the Cardinals. Newman Catholic finished the year with a 24-4 record.  

Skylar White led River Ridge (21-3) to a sectional appearance before falling to state champion Black Hawk. The junior averaged 18.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.5 steals per game for WBCA Hall of Fame coach Caron Townsend and the Timberwolves.
