Bay Port junior Emma Nagel has been selected as the PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week for the week of March 4 through 10.
There was a total of 3,294 votes cast this week. Emma finished first with 1,522 votes. Black Hawk's Bailey Butler finished second with a total of 1,292 votes.
The Bay Port basketball team ended the 2019 WIAA Girls State Tournament in thrilling fashion this past weekend at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Emma Nagel provided the biggest thrill of the tournament. Before the D1 final matchup, Emma had 23 points and 16 rebounds as Bay Port advanced past Kimberly 63-53 in the state semi-final matchup.
Middleton, whom knocked off top seeded Mukwonago in the other state semi-final match awaited Bay Port in the championship. With a little over 37 seconds left, Middleton took a one point lead on a three point shot by Josie Lemirande. Bay Port took possession and with just over two seconds left, Emma hit a game-winning layup to secure a 50-49 win. She finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds to take home Bay Port's first gold ball in in their history of girls basketball.
