PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: Mar. 11-17

Jacob Ognacevic, Sheboygan Lutheran boys basketball: Jacob was incredible all season for Sheboygan Lutheran and capped off his junior year with a tremendous showing at the state tournament. In a 74-61 win over McDonell Central in the semi-finals, Jacob had 19 points and 14 rebounds. Sheboygan then matched up with Columbus Catholic in the finals and Jacob finished the year with maybe his best performance. He had 35 points and 19 rebounds as the Crusaders captured gold in D5. His 33 rebounds would have been a D5 state tournament record had Bryce Fuerlinger not had 34 in Columbus Catholic's two games this season. Jacob shot 64% from the field in the tournament.

Jaden Kreklow, New Glarus boys basketball: Jaden was nothing short of spectacular as he led the New Glarus Knights to their first state championship in program history. New Glarus matched up with previously unbeaten Roncalli in the semi-finals that saw New Glarus come away with a 44-41 win. Jaden had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the win. That set up a matchup with 1-loss Lourdes Academy in the state finals. Jaden's quickness and overall scoring ability allowed him to score 22 points and dish out 4 assists in a 67-62 win. Jaden attacked the rim at well all weekend as New Glarus captured its first gold ball in program history.

Trequan Carrington, Martin Luther boys basketball: Trequan was fast and efficient in his approach this weekend, leading Martin Luther to its first state championship in school history. As Martin Luther eased to a 96-61 win over Northwestern in the semi-finals, Trequan came just 6 points shy of setting a tournament record for points in a game. He scored 41 points, a D3 record, while adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals. Martin Luther then faced off with Waupun in a rematch from earlier in the season. The Spartans came out victorious 58-49 behind 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals from Trequan. He continually pushed the pace and disrupted passing lanes to lead Martin Luther to its first gold ball in school history.

Jalen Johnson, Nicolet boys basketball: In a loaded D2 state tournament field, Jalen and Nicolet showed their dominance over the weekend. Nicolet began by beating Elkhorn 70-46 in the semi-finals. Jalen had 16 points and 11 rebounds while adding 3 assists and 4 steals. The win set up the highly anticipated matchup with Milwaukee Washington in the finals. Jalen showcased every aspect of his game as Nicolet took down Washington 67-54 to capture its first gold ball in program history. Jalen had 20 points and 20 rebounds as he dominated both sides of the ball.

Cole Nau, Brookfield Central boys basketball: Like many of the athletes this week, Cole was trying to capture a gold ball for his team for the first time in school history. Like the others, he succeeded in doing so. Cole was a floor general throughout the weekend for the Lancers. In the 61-47 semi-final win over Neenah, Cole had 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. He ran the show offensively, and was a lockdown defender on the other side of the ball. Brookfield Central matched up with Sun Prairie in the state final, who was also looking for their first gold ball in school history. Cole again ran the show and pushed the tempo as Central won 69-52. He had 13 points and 6 assists in the game. Cole shot 75% from the field in the two games and captained the Lancers to D1 gold.
