WBCA announces Division 2 Boys Basketball All-State Team

The underclass trio of juniors Johnny Davis of La Crosse Central and Jalen Johnson of Nicolet as well as Milwaukee Washington sophomore Michael Foster, Jr. are unanimous picks on the 2019 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 All-State Team. Davis, Foster, and Westosha Central’s Jaeden Zackery of Westosha Central were repeat selections on the team, while Deontay Long of Milwaukee Washington is a three-time choice. Nicolet’s Jalen Johnson was a First Team pick a year ago in Division 1 while at Sun Prairie, while East Troy’s AJ Vukovich earned WBCA All-State honors last season when the Trojans competed in Division 3.

Davis is a three-year varsity performer who has played a key role on three consecutive state tournament qualifying teams. He went over 20 points per game for a second straight year, averaging 23.1 as the Mississippi Valley Conference Player of the Year.

Johnson helped lead the Knights to a Division 2 state title and 27-1 overall mark, as Nicolet did not lose to a Wisconsin team this season. The 6’9” junior is a top ten player nationally and is able to impact the game in multiple ways at multiple positions. He averaged 19.9 points per game in the 2018-19 season.

Foster, Jr. continued to show why he’s one of the top sophomore players in the country in helping Washington to a second straight Division 2 runner-up finish. The 6’9” forward put up 18.9 points per game, pulling down 11.3 rebounds per game while recording 3.5 blocks per contest.

Long is a three-time WBCA All-State choice who has been a part of three consecutive state tournament teams. A 6’5” senior, Long led the Purgolders with 20.5 points per game to go with 10.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per contest.

Vukovich was a WBCA All-State choice in Division 3 with East Troy last season but the Trojans bump up to D2 this year. A Louisville baseball commit, he nonetheless was named the Rock Valley Conference Player of the Year for a second straight year, averaging 26.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. 

Zackery helped Westosha Central claim an outright Southern Lakes Conference championship while posting a 23-2 record. One of the state’s top senior playmakers, he averaged 21.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game as a follow-up to a junior campaign that saw him help the Falcons to the state tournament.

Jamari Sibley of Nicolet was an Honorable Mention All-State choice last year and was even better in helping the Knights to a Division 2 state title this season. The 6’9” junior forward averaged more than 19 points per game this season in teaming with Jalen Johnson for one of the most explosive frontcourts the state has seen.

Donovan Ivory of Kaukauna had a big hand in the Ghost’s 2018 state championship and became the team’s go-to player this season. The 6’5” senior wing averaged 20.4 points per game as the Galloping Ghosts finished second in the FVA and posted a 20-6 record.

Will Pytleski of Green Bay Southwest keyed an outright FRCC championship run for the Trojans, who finished 22-3 in advancing to sectional play. The 6’3” senior guard averaged 21.2 points per game and pulled down 11.5 rebounds per contest.

Austin Westra of DeForest went over 1000 career points this year for the Norskies. The Badger-North Conference Player of the Year this season, Westra is a two-time First Team All-Conference choice, averaging 17.3 points per game as a senior.
