Southern Door's Derik LeCaptain has been selected as the 2018-19 male recipient of the Pat Richter Award from WisSports.net as the Triple Threat Athlete of the Year.

The Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. At the end of the school year, those awarded with the weekly honor are eligible for the Pat Richter Award, which will go out to the top boys and girls three-sport athletes of the season.

Hugh V. "Pat" Richter is one of Wisconsin's most storied student-athletes. He was a three-sport athlete at Madison East High School, competing in football, basketball and baseball. He went on to fame at the University of Wisconsin, earning nine varsity letters in three sports and would later become the Athletic Director at Wisconsin.

Past winners of the award include Max Alba of Franklin (2017-18), Danny Vanden Boom of Kimberly (2016-17), Nate Stanley of Menomonie (2015-16), Alec Ingold of Bay Port (2014-15), Matt Ferris of Xavier (2013-14), Jester Weah of Madison Memorial (2012-13), Kyle Cody of McDonell Central (2011-12), Hank Kujak of Blair-Taylor (2010-11) and Donnie Hissa of Northwestern (2009-10).

He helped South Door capture four consecutive Packerland Conference championships in basketball and three league titles in football.

During his playing days on the football field, LeCaptain rushed for 5,199 yards and scored 66 touchdowns while earning first-team all-league honors as a running back as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

In addition, LeCaptain finished with 23 touchdowns and 1,840 receiving yards while helping the Eagles to a combined record of 33-11.

On defense, LeCaptain earned first-team all-league recognition at linebacker as a senior and junior, and second-team laurels as a sophomore.

On the basketball court, LeCaptain was voted first-team all-Packerland Conference as a senior and junior, second-team as a sophomore, and honorable mention as a freshman.

He helped the Eagles win the conference title in all four seasons and finished with 1,363 career points. As a senior, the 6-foot-3 forward averaged 13.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists as Southern Door went 19-5.
