Thirty teams took part in the annual Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Tournament held July 6-7 in Burlington.

Following are some observations from the event:

Tyrese Hunter

Five Breakout Performers

Tyrese Hunter, 6-1, Jr., G, Racine St. Catherine's

Already ranked among the elite prospects in the state in the WisSports.net Player Rankings for the class of 2021, Hunter was outstanding while leading the Angels to a 5-0 record and the Pools A-B championship. He made shots from the perimeter, delivered excellent passes -- both in transition and in the half court -- and defended the perimeter very well. Hunter's athleticism and quickness can be nothing short of eye-popping at times, and his length reminds some of former Milwaukee Washington great Brian Garner, a 6-foot-2 guard who went on to play at Iowa. Hunter already owns NCAA Division I scholarship offers from DePaul, Grambling State and Milwaukee, and figures to add to that list in the next 12 months as he continues to improve his shooting skills and physical strength.

Nick Brown

Nick Brown, 6-5, Sr., WF, Elkhorn
A starter on the Elkhorn squad that finished 23-4 and qualified for the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament last March, Brown flashed his quickness to get around defenders with the ball in his hands along with his impressive quick-jumping ability while helping Elkhorn to a 2-2 record. The recent NCAA Division II recruit for nearby Parkside blocked several shots, snared rebounds off the rim and scored from outside the three-point arc as well as around the rim. A long, bouncy player with a big upside as he continues to mature physically, Brown averaged 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds as junior for coach Josh Skatrud and figures to emerge as one of the top players in the Southern Lakes Conference in 2019-20.

Haakon Anderson

Haakon Anderson, 6-2, Sr., G, Verona
A tough, physical and competitive backcourt performer who can defend, score and rebound, Anderson was extremely difficult for Verona coach Eddie Singleton to take off the court during the Wildcats' five games in Burlington. Anderson scored in double figures in each contest and averaged 15.0 ppg while leading Verona to a 4-1 record. Anderson's impressive court presence, his solid passing ability and his tough-minded approach on the defensive end of the court were apparent every second he was on the court. Anderson averaged 7.9 ppg as a junior and figures to be one of the most improved players in the Big Eight Conference this upcoming season.

Dylan Runkel

Dylan Runkel, 6-7, Sr., PF/C, Burlington
A powerful post player with excellent footwork in the lane, Runkel was darn near unstoppable at times as he helped the upstart Demons to a 4-1 record and the Pools C-D championship. Runkel has very good hands as he was able to snatch lob passes over defenders while also handling bounce passes into the post. He can finish with both hands and above the rim, and did a nice job of clearing rebounds on both ends of the court. A returning first-team all-Southern Lakes Conference performer, Runkel averaged 12.6 points and 7.8 rebounds as a junior. Also a standout football player, Runkel remains open about which sport he will pursue at the next level.

Carter Gebler

Carter Gebler, 6-0, Sr., PG, Kohler
A smooth, skilled and smart lead guard who can make shots and is a more than willing distributor, Gebler was the catalyst for Kohler's 5-0 record in Burlington. The son of former Sheboygan South and Lawrence University standout Kyle Gebler, Carter Gebler made three-point shots, got to the rim with his quickness, and pushed the ball in transition for coach Ken Roeder and the Blue Bombers. Gebler was particularly effective driving to the basket and then using kickout passes to find open three-point shooters. Gebler is the leader for a very good Kohler squad that figures to make plenty of noise in the Big East Conference in 2019-20.
