WSN Northern Exposure Classic Girls' Preview

The inaugural WSN Northern Exposure Classic will be held on Saturday, July 27 at D.C. Everest High School. 

There are 13 teams competing in the event with three pools; two pools of four teams and one of five. For the schedule and general information for the event, click here

Admission for the tournament is $5; children 14 and under as well as college coaches are free.

Pool A

Kaukauna went 12-12 overall record last season, including a 9-9 record in the very strong FVA. The Galloping Ghosts return all of their top players and are poised to see that win total make a jump. Division I prospect Chloe Van Zeeland (2021) highlights the squad; she averaged 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore for coach Craig Hawley. Joining her as key players are fellow class of 2021's Graysin Hartjes (10.5 ppg), Sutten Ebben (8.7 ppg) and Maddy McCabe (8.2 ppg). (Tournament Roster

New Richmond posted a 14-9 record last season, which included an 8-6 mark in the Middle Border. The Tigers welcome back their top four scores, led by senior Jessica Hagman (2020) who averaged 15.6 points per game for coach Chad Eggert. Other notable returners are Barb Kling (2021; 8.5 ppg), Leah DeYoung (2021; 8 ppg) and Audrey Feuerer (2020; 7.4 ppg). (Tournament Roster

Rhinelander went 18-6 in 2018-19, including capturing the Great Northern title with an undefeated record. Coach Ryan Clark and the Hodags return four of their top six scorers, including leading scorer Kenedy Van Zile (2020) who averaged 24.6 points per game. Other key returners include Rebecca Lawrence (2021), Cynthia Beavers (2020) and Marissa Martin (2021). (Tournament Roster

Wausau West reached a Division 1 sectional final and finished the 2018-19 season with a 20-5 record, including a 10-2 record in the Wisconsin Valley. The Warriors will have a revamped roster in 2019-20 after the graduation of their top three scorers that combined to average over 50 points per contest. WBCA Hall of Fame coach Tom Weinkauf will look to senior Anna Cunningham (2020; 6.9 ppg) and sophomore Kiley Deaton (2021; 6.6 ppg) to take on larger scoring roles this upcoming season. 

Pool B

Colfax reached a Division 4 sectional final and went 19-5 overall last season; the Vikings earned a share of the Dunn-St. Croix title. WBCA Hall of Fame coach Joe Doucette welcomes back leading scorer Kameri Meredith (2020) who averaged 13.4 points per contest as a junior. Other notable returners are Rachel Scharlau (2020; 6.3 ppg) and Madison Barstad (2022; 4 ppg). (Tournament Roster)

Howards Grove posted a 22-3 record and finished second in the Big East, going 14-2. The Tigers, coached by Heidi Georgeff, reached a Division 4 sectional final last season and welcome back their top three scorers in 2021's Mackenzie Holzwart (12 ppg), Maddy Near (11 ppg) and Leah Parnitzke (9.4 ppg). Lakeland went 15-9 overall and 9-3 in the Great Northern last season. Coach Melissa Ouimette and the Thunderbirds return three of their top four scorers, led by senior Abigail Paris (2020) who dropped 17.9 points per game as a junior. Other key returners include Emma Salquist (2020; 6.2 ppg) and Joeli Koehler (2022; 5 ppg). Lakeland also welcomes in talented freshman Julianna Ouimette (5-9, 2023), daughter of coach Ouimette, who is already receiving Division I interest. 

Neillsville reached a Division 4 sectional semifinal and went 21-4 overall last season. The Warriors finished second in the Cloverbelt-East with a 13-3 record. Veteran coach John Gaier and the Warriors return three of their top four scorers, led by Alli Schoengarth (2020). Other key returners are Jaden Barth (2021) and Bella Opelt (2021). Oconto Falls went 12-10 overall and 8-10 in the competitive North Eastern last season. Senior Kari Albrecht (2020) led the Panthers in scoring last season with 10.7 points per game. Other top returners for coach Michael Kaczmareck Jr. and the Panthers are fellow seniors Natalie Brauer and Morgan Helmle, who averaged 7.3 and 6.7 points per contest, respectively. 

Pool C

Clintonville posted an 8-16 overall record, including going 6-12 in the North Eastern. Coach Nick Yaeger and the Truckers return all of their top players, with 2020's Erin Viergutz and Elly Arndt highlighting the squad. Other key returners include Lizzy Weatherwax (2020), Lindsy Carpenter (2020) and Abby King (2020). (Tournament Roster

Gibraltar posted a 16-7 record, including going 12-4 in the Packerland in 2018-19. The Vikings return two of their top three scorers, led by Abbigael Sitte (2020) who averaged 10 points per contest. Joining her a key returner is Karlee Kita (2021; 8.5 ppg). Gibraltar will have a new head coach for the 2019-20 season. (Tournament Roster)

Loyal finished the 2018-19 season with a 15-9 record, including going 10-6 in the Cloverbelt-East. Coach Mike Rueth and the Greyhounds graduated three of their top five scorers, but do welcome back leading scorer Remi Geiger (2020) who averaged 15.3 points per game as a junior. Other key returners include Savannah Schley (2021), Kayla Bremmer (2021) and Katlyn Lindner (2021). 

Oneida Nation posted a 19-4 record, which included earning a share of the Marinette & Oconto title. M'Kenzy Ackley (2021) highlights the group of returners for the Thunderhawks after posting a team-high 14.7 points per game as a sophomore. Other key returners include Sadie Schuman (2020; 11.5 ppg) and Malia Jacobs (2020; 10.6 ppg). Oneida Nation hired Lee Laster as its new head coach earlier this offseason. (Tournament Roster)
