Elkhorn went up 14-0 in the first quarter of Friday's non-conference game against Lakeside Lutheran, but saw the host Warriors score the next 28 points to take a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter. Quarterback Mason Buelow helped engineer the comeback, scoring on a two-yard plunge early in the fourth, then throwing a six-yard touchdown to Thomas Zimmerman with less than two minutes remaining. The Elks would gamble and go for two, making it when Buelow converted for what proved to be a 29-28 victory. Buelow completed 28-of-41 passes in the game for 312 yards and three touchdowns, adding 109 yards and a score on the ground.
After missing the playoffs the last two years, Reedsburg showed they are ready to be a contender once again, opening the season with a win over Oregon before a huge non-conference road win at Monona Grove on Friday. Campbell had three long touchdowns in the 21-13 victory, including a 44-yard run to open the scoring for the Beavers. He added a 35-yard reception for a score in the second quarter, and his 51-yard touchdown catch in the third helped put the game away. He finished the game with 89 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with two catches for 81 yards and two scores. Campbell also had 39 punt return yards and averaged 36 yards per punt.
It was an epic shootout between some of the most talented athletes in the state last Thursday as La Crosse Central took on Eau Claire Memorial. There were at least three combined scores in every quarter, with Memorial pulling away for a 62-44 victory. Junior running back Loyal Crawford, a Wisconsin Badgers commit, went wild in the second half, scoring five touchdowns to help the Old Abes secure the win. He finished with 36 carries for 337 yards and five scores to power Memorial to victory.
Grafton is off to a 2-0 start after defeating West Bend East 40-27 on Friday night. The Blackhawks trailed in the third quarter before senior running back Joey Giorgi took over. He scored four touchdowns over the final quarter and a half, as the team was able to hold off the Suns. He finished the game with 30 carries for 344 yards and five touchdowns, with three of those scores coming in the final quarter. He added five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown through the air as well.
The Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian football team scored 50 points and eight touchdowns on Friday, and sophomore quarterback Robby Michael accounted for all eight scores for the co-op program. He finished with 258 yards and four scores on 27 rushing attempts, completing 17-of-34 passes for 175 yards and four touchdowns through the air as the team beat Manitowoc Lutheran 50-28.
