PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: August 26 - September 1

Mickenzi Benter, Fox Valley Lutheran girls volleyball: Fox Valley Lutheran took home a first place finish in two separate tournaments this past week and Mickenzi was a big reason why. In the Battle of the Valley tournament, Fox Valley Lutheran went a perfect 5-0 as Mickenzi recorded 21 kills, 25 digs, and 31 assists. She then led them to another 5-0 record at the Wisconsin Rapids Cobleigh Invite with 21 digs, 28 kills, and 37 assists.

Sophie Fiske, Sun Prairie girls swimming: Sophie had an incredible day as Sun Prairie beat Madison Memorial for the first time ever in a Big Eight Conference dual. She took home two individual and two relay first place finishes. In the 50-yard freestyle, she set a school record with a time of 23.83 seconds. She also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.33 seconds. She then anchored the record-setting 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay with times of 1:47.26 and 1:39.03 respectively.

Dalton Damon, Burlington football: Dalton was electric through the air and on the ground as Burlington took down Racine Horlick 41-29 in a non-conference matchup. Through the air, Dalton was 9 of 12 for 127 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown pass. He was unstoppable on the ground as he rushed 12 times for 230 yards; an incredible 19.2 yards per rush. He had touchdown rushes of 1, 12, and 35 yards.

Kalan Narance, Winnebago Lutheran boys soccer: Winnebago Lutheran started their 2019 season off with the team that ended their 2018 season, Kohler. Kalan was incredible in goal for the Vikings as kept Kohler scoreless in the 2-0 win. He had 10 saves on the day, including a few diving ones that stopped surefire goals. Kalan followed up that performance by recording 12 saves in a 4-2 win over Kettle Moraine Lutheran, a team that advanced to the state semi-finals last season.

Alex Tafoya, La Crosse Logan boys soccer: Alex led La Crosse Logan to two victories this past week as he was a scoring machine. In their season opening 10-0 win over Black River Falls, Alex netted himself three goals. Logan then squared off with Sparta in their first Mississippi Valley Conference match of the season. Alex again scored three goals, which happened to be every goal for Logan, in a 3-2 victory.
