Division 1

After a busy opening weekend, several large schools eased into Week 2 with conference play and a bye weekend resulting in few changes in the Division 1 top five. An early-season Greater Metro showdown saw top-ranked Brookfield Central hold off Hamilton to maintain its unbeaten record in 2019. Similarly, Arrowhead cruised through two midweek Classic Eight matches to hold strong at No. 2 in the Coaches Poll. Appleton North held on at No. 3, while No. 4 Burlington took an early claim on the Southern Lakes race with a victory over Union Grove. Watertown, Oconomowoc, and River Falls all finished within mere points in this week’s poll, with the Goslings cracking the top five for the first time at No. 5.

Division 2

Despite losing both gold bracket matchups at the KML Invitational last weekend, Edgewood surged to the top of the Division 2 poll in Week 2. Last week’s No. 1, Lake Country Lutheran, fell one spot behind the Crusaders. Lakeside Lutheran, which knocked off Edgewood in a thrilling three-set third place match at KML, raised one spot to No. 3 this week. Wisconsin Lutheran, last week’s No. 2 team, dropped to No. 4 this week. The Vikings were followed by Division 2 surprise Platteville, which at 18-1, climbs into the top five for the first time this season.

Division 3

In what appears to be an early two-team race in Division 3, Howards Grove eked past Waterloo to take over the top spot in Week 2. The Tigers’ two losses on the year are to D1 ranked teams Kettle Moraine and Oconomowoc, both in three set tournament championships. Waterloo looked impressive in a road sweep of Capitol Conference rival Wisconsin Heights last Thursday, but fell to No. 2 this week. Aquinas breezed through its own tournament last weekend and held on at No. 3. Grantsburg followed suit and climbed to No. 4 in the Week 2 poll. The Pirates leapt over still-unbeaten Dominican, who at 11-0 holds onto a top five spot at No. 5.

Division 4

There was no change within the top five in Division 4—in fact, there were only two new teams to the top 10 altogether. Catholic Central continues to bolster its early-season strength of schedule, this weekend dropping a match to Illinois powerhouse Benet Academy.  The Hilltoppers are followed once again by Columbus Catholic, which dropped a match to D3 dark horse Auburndale on Tuesday. Similarly, McDonell Central lost in the final of the Aquinas tournament, and Newman Catholic battled some big schools at the DC Everest Invite this past weekend. Royall also held steady at No. 5 this week, finishing runner-up to Platteville at the Richland Center invite.
