The Wausau East Lumberjacks have been selected as the Week 3 WSN Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team scored an overtime victory against Mosinee to take one more step towards playoff qualification. The Lumberjacks were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 3. A total of 3,693 votes were cast, as Wausau East's 1,769 votes edged Evansville's 1,296 votes.

The Wausau East program has been in rough shape for some time, so much so that a few years ago the team left the VFA to become Independent, knowing that there would be a suspension from postseason play for several years. Under second-year coach Kevin Grundy, the program is changing, not just the culture, but the on-field product. After a 45-44 overtime victory against Mosinee on Friday, the Lumberjacks are now 3-0 on the year. It was a thriller Friday night, as Wausau East built a 28-7 second-quarter lead, only to see Mosinee come roaring back to tie the game early in the third. East again went ahead by a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but Mosinee's high-flying passing attack tied it up with less than a minute remaining to force overtime. East scored first and kicked an extra point, and Mosinee followed with a touchdown of its own. Mosinee would go for two and the win, but it was stopped by Wausau East to preserve the victory. Donovan Leverette had 327 yards and four touchdowns on 34 carries for the Lumberjacks.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 4 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
