Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

Muskego is the defending champion in Division 1 and the top-ranked team once again, followed by Kimberly, Bay port, and Fond du Lac. Verona held the five-spot last week, but a loss to Sun Prairie dropped the Wildcats to eighth this week, one spot behind the Cardinals. Another Big Eight team, Madison Memorial, moves into the top five. The Spartans take on Verona this week in another huge Big Eight game.

Division 2

Waunakee is a unanimous selection as the top team in Division 2, as the Warriors keep dominating in 2019. Defending champion Homestead is second, followed by West De Pere. Menomonee Falls sat out several players to rest and recover in a non-conference loss to Waukesha West, and it caused the Indians to fall from fourth to eighth this week. Hartford makes a big move from a tie for tenth to the six spot, as the Orioles have a huge clash with Homestead this week.

Division 3

Catholic Memorial continues to hold a strong lead in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches Poll, as Menasha and Medford follow behind. New Berlin Eisenhower and Onalaska now round out the top five, as former number four Grafton's second loss of the year caused the Black Hawks to fall to ninth this week. New Berlin West goes from unranked to eighth with Rhinelander dropping out of the poll.

Division 4

Racine St. Catherine's is a near unanimous pick to lead the Division 4 Coaches Poll this week, which did see a number of other changes in the top five. Second-ranked Wrightstown lost a tough one to Freedom, as the Tigers move to sixth this week. Saint Croix Central's defeat at the hands of New Richmond caused the Panthers to fall from fourth to tenth. Following Racine St. Catherine's in this week's top five are Kiel, Freedom, Martin Luther, and Northwestern, as Freedom and Northwestern both moved up four spots this week.

Division 5

Stratford scored at least 80 points for a second time this year, held an opponent to negative yardage for a second time this year, and pitched a shutout for the fifth time this year. It is no surprise the Tigers are again on top of the Division 5 Coaches Poll. Chilton's loss to Kiel dropped the Tigers from seventh to tenth this week, allowing unbeaten Bloomer to shoot up a couple spots to seventh.

Division 6

Regis keeps dominating on the field and in the rankings, as the Ramblers received all but one first-place vote this week. Racine Lutheran is second, with a showdown against D4 top-ranked Racine St. Catherine's looming this weekend. Benton/Scales Mound (IL)/Shullsburg suffered its first loss of the year to D7 number one Black Hawk/Warren (IL), and the Knights fell just one spot to seventh this week. Auburndale moves into the rankings, replacing Kenosha St. Joseph.

Division 7

Not much changed at the top of the Division 7 rankings, as defending champion Black Hawk/Warren (IL) remains the number one team, followed closely by Bangor and Edgar. Sporting the most unbeaten teams of any division, the only change in the poll saw Greenwood fall out of the rankings after a loss to Loyal, allowing Blair-Taylor to make its first entry into the top ten in several years, as the Wildcats are 4-1 overall and in first place in the Dairyland Conference.

8-Player

The big game in 8-Player saw top-ranked Luck close out number three Siren, 46-30 on Friday as the Cardinals racked up 352 rushing yards. Luck of course stays on top of the poll as a near unanimous selection, while Siren dropped a couple spots to fifth this week. Sixth-ranked Oakfield went down for a second time this year, as the Oaks drop out of the poll, replaced by Suring, who enters at number ten.
