WisSports.net Week 8 Player of the Week Nominees

Kallion Buckner, Middleton

Middleton went on the road and controlled the second half of Friday's game against rival Sun Prairie, scoring a 35-19 victory. Senior running back Kallion Buckner continued his big season, rushing 24 times for 260 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 10.8 yards per attempt. With Middleton trailing 13-7 to open the third quarter, Buckner scored on an 80-yard touchdown run to help put the Cardinals up, then added a 91-yard scoring scamper in the fourth quarter. Buckner also caught a five-yard pass for the victorious Cardinals.

Rashad Lampkin, Brookfield Central

Brookfield Central pulled into a tie atop the Greater Metro Conference standings with one week to go, handing Menomonee Falls its first league loss, 17-13 in a thriller. Falls led 7-3 entering the fourth quarter, but the Lancers took a lead when senior running back Rashad Lampkin went in from a yard out. After Falls went ahead again, Central had one final chance, driving inside the five yard line as the final buzzer neared. With three seconds left on the clock from the four-yard line, Lampkin caught a short swing pass and stretched across the goal line for the game-winning touchdown. He finished with 38 carries for 161 yards and a touchdown, adding a team-high five catches for 37 yards and a score.

Joey Goettl, Marshfield

It was an ending so wild that Marshfield coach Dennis Goettl had a hard time remembering how it all went down on our Football Friday Night interview shortly after the game, but the Tigers rallied to defeat D.C. Everest 20-19 and secure the VFA-West title for a second year in a row. Everest led 16-0 in the second quarter, but senior quarterback Joey Goettl would get Marshfield on the board with just three seconds left in the half on an eight-yard scoring scamper. Still trailing 19-7 entering the fourth quarter, Goettl scored on another touchdown run early in the period to pull the Tigers within one score. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Goettl found Simon Slade for a nine-yard touchdown, giving Marshfield the victory. Goettl finished with 125 passing yards and a touchdown, adding 58 yards and two scores on 19 rush attempts.

Beau Gross, Stratford

The Game of the Week more than lived up to the hype, as longtime Marawood Conference rivals Stratford and Edgar showed why they are among the favorites to return to Madison and the state finals. It was undoubtedly a defensive slugfest, with neither team able to get on the scoreboard in the first three quarters. However, in the fourth, Stratford put a drive together that was capped by a one-yard scoring plunge from Beau Gross. By far the game's leader in offensive production, Gross carried the ball 22 times for 123 yards and a score, as Stratford held on for a 6-0 victory, claiming a Marawood Conference title. It will be the last time for the foreseeable future that these teams meet as conference opponents, with Stratford changing conferences next year.

Nate Oestreich, Dodgeland

Dodgeland kept its playoff hopes alive with a 42-24 win over Montello/Princeton/Green Lake on Friday. The Trojans led 20-18 at halftime as Nate Oestreich went in for three, first-half touchdowns on the ground. He'd add another midway through the third quarter to put Dodgeland up by two scores, adding a 57-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter after Montello/Princeton/Green Lake cut the margin to 11 points. For the game, Oestreich finished with 38 carries for 337 yards and four rushing touchdowns in addition to the 57-yard touchdown reception.
