Week 8 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Mondovi Buffaloes

Mondovi entered Week 8 with no points allowed in the first seven games, and while that run ended less than two minutes into the game against fellow unbeaten Spring Valley, the Buffaloes prevailed thanks to a fourth quarter comeback, 32-29. Mondovi led 17-14 at the half when Raith Bauer connected on a 36-yard field goal attempt. It was a portent of things to come. Trailing 29-23 in the fourth quarter, Mondovi got a game-tying touchdown with just over three minutes remaining, but missed the extra point. They'd get another chance, however, and Bauer booted home a game-winning 32-yard field goal with two seconds left to lift the Buffaloes to the win.

Northwestern Tigers

Northwestern remained unbeaten and wrapped up at least a share of the Heart O'North Conference title with a resounding 42-18 win over Bloomer on Friday. While Bloomer led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, the rest of the game belonged to Northwestern, who led 28-12 at halftime before cruising home for the three-score victory. The Tigers' rushing attack ground out 351 yards and four scores on 51 attempts, while quarterback Jake Brill threw a pair of touchdowns as well. Northwestern can secure an unbeaten season and outright league title in Week 9 against Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.

Pulaski Red Raiders

With a looming showdown against FRCC titan Bay Port in Week 9, the Pulaski Red Raiders kept their focus in posting a 34-6 win over Ashwaubenon in Week 8. The Jaguars entered with just one loss this year, but the Pulaski defense came up big, limiting Ashwaubenon to less than 200 yards of offense while picking off the Jaguars three times, one of which was returned for a touchdown. The Pulaski ground game ground out the Jaguars to the tune of 314 yards and two touchdowns on 35 attempts, averaging 314 yards per rush. Ben Redlin did most of that damage, carrying it 18 times for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Nash Lemerond completed all four of his passes, including two scores.

Racine Case Eagles

Racine Case had one of the biggest days in program history, beating Racine Park 13-6 in a slugfest. It gave Case wins over both Park and Horlick, as they claim the unofficial Racine city title for the first time since 1987 and just the fifth time ever. The win also puts them just one victory short of guaranteeing their first playoff appearance since 1997. Even if they do lose in Week 9 to Kenosha Indian Trail, the Eagle stand a very good chance of ending that lengthy playoff drought. Against Park, Jamil Lacy returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Myles Guyton would score less than two minutes later. The offense went cold after that, but the defense limited Park to just one, third-quarter score and the Eagles held on for the win.

River Falls Wildcats

River Falls remained in the hunt for at least a share of a second straight Big Rivers Conference title, shutting out Superior 21-0. In deteriorating weather conditions, the Wildcats didn't complete a pass, but the running game was productive with 54 attempts for 280 yards and three scores. Michael Krueger did most of that damage, carrying the ball 34 times for 177 yards and all three touchdowns, as he continues to fill in for star running back Seth Kohel, who is out with an injury. The defense held Superior to just 74 yards of offense in the game. River Falls can secure at least a share of the conference title with a victory over winless Eau Claire North in Week 9.
