WisSports.net Week 9 Player of the Week Nominees

Cooper Bredlau, Greenwood

Greenwood needed to win in Week 9 against Thorp to guarantee itself a spot in the WIAA playoffs. Thorp was also playing for its postseason life, so there was a lot on the line in Thorp. Greenwood trailed early on but would tie the game when quarterback Cooper Bredlau scored from seven yards out with just 13 seconds remaining in the first half. The game remained knotted at six most of the way, until Bredlau found the end zone again, this time from four yards out and just 26 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Bredlau threw for a two-point conversion, as Greenwood won 14-6 to qualify for the playoffs. He finished with 138 rushing yards and two scores on 21 attempts and also threw for 36 yards. Bredlau handled the punting, kick returning, and picked off two passes on defense as well.

Isaiah Gash, Bay Port

Bay Port wrapped up another outright FRCC title, won its 36th straight conference game, and took down an undefeated team with a 42-0 running clock victory over Pulaski on Friday. Pulaski entered with one of the top defensive units in the area, but Bay Port senior running back Isaiah Gash was part of a group that shredded the Raiders on the ground. Gash went for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per rush attempt. His 59-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter opened the scoring for the Pirates, and he'd add another touchdown run in the second before his last score in the middle of the third quarter.

Jake Leair, Cedarburg

Cedarburg started the year with four straight losses, and it seemed the playoffs would be out of reach once again. However, the Bulldogs righted the ship and capped off a run of four wins in the final five games by defeating West Bend East 40-14. The win got Cedarburg back to the postseason for the first time since 2016. Senior quarterback Jake Leair opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Most of his damage came through the air, however, as he was incredibly efficient. On the day he completed 12-of-16 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns, good for a 154.7 quarterback rating.

Clayton Markech, Omro

Omro was in must-win mode hosting Lomira on Friday, as the Foxes entered at 2-3 in league play. Lomira led 7-0 at halftime and 14-0 at one point in the third quarter, but Omro would battle back. It started with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Clayton Markech to Cade Stachura in the third quarter. After tying the game at 14 with 7:12 left in the fourth quarter, Omro had a chance to win it late. With just one second remaining on the clock Markech nailed a 36-yard field goal to provide the game-winning points in a 17-14 victory that secured Omro a playoff spot. Markech added 36 rushing yards on nine carries plus seven tackles on defense as well.

Darris Schuett, New Glarus/Monticello

New Glarus/Monticello jumped out on Belleville early and cruised home for a 42-7 victory to wrap up the regular season on Friday. Junior quarterback Darrius Schuett threw three touchdown passes in the first quarter to stake the Knights to a 21-0 lead. He'd tack another short touchdown pass in the second quarter before capping his day with another touchdown toss in the third. Schuett finished the day with 305 yards and five touchdowns on 15-of-21 passing.
