The Dave Krieg Award is given annually to the state's top senior quarterback as part of the WSN Senior Football Awards. The award is named after former D.C. Everest and Milton College athlete Dave Krieg, who went on to play 12 seasons in the NFL and still ranks in the Top 15 all-time in most passing categories.

The pre-season watch list was trimmed down to 23 semi-finalists, and five finalists for the award have now been selected. Winners are announced the week of the state finals.

Dave Krieg Award Finalists:

Kyle Allen, Hortonville - Allen helped guide the Polar Bears to a share of the VFA-South conference title and a second-seed in the WIAA playoffs. One of the state's most improved players, he went from 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions with a 47% completion percentage as a junior to 31 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 55.7% completion percentage as a senior. This year he has a 113.5 passer rating with 2,284 yards through the air. In a comeback attempt that came up just short of Fond du Lac in the team's only loss, Allen threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns, part of a run where he had four touchdowns in four straight games.

Brooks Blount, Waukesha West - A three-year starter at West, longtime head coach Steve Rux calls Blount the best quarterback they've had in the last 20 years. In his senior campaign, he's thrown for 3,148 yards and 33 touchdowns with 11 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 106.3. In his three years for the Wolverines, he's accumulated 6,491 yards and 63 passing touchdowns as this year the team advanced to the state semi-finals.

Johnny Davis, La Crosse Central - La Crosse Central finished just 5-5 overall and exited in Level 1 of the playoffs, but it's tough saying where the team would have been without Davis. Accounting for 83% of the team's offense despite losing twin brother Jordan, an All-State caliber receiver, early in the season, Johnny did huge damage with both his legs and his arm. He threw for 1,839 yards with 15 touchdowns, adding 1,335 yards and 20 scores on the ground. "Johnny might be the best offensive player ever to come out of our school and our conference, at least in my 30 years of being at Central as a player or coach," said Raiders head coach Tony Servais. Davis would have had scholarship football opportunities but has accepted a scholarship offer from the Wisconsin Badgers hoops team.

Jacob Frantl, Hartford - Frantl guided the Orioles to an undefeated regular season, wrestling away the North Shore Conference title from perennial power Homestead. In the process, Frantl has completed 60.9% of his passes for 2,613 yards and 28 touchdowns to go with a 104.2 passer rating. In the team's 21-18 takedown of Homestead, Frantl threw for 147 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He's added 339 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground this year as well.

Isaac Lindsey, Mineral Point - Lindsey is just the tenth player in state history to throw for more than 7,000 career yards. A four-year starter, Lindsey had a 130.8 quarterback rating after completing 67.7% of his passes for 2,379 yards and 27 touchdowns against eight interceptions, despite sitting out the second half of many blowouts. He added 488 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this year, as he has 1,973 career rushing yards with 32 rushing touchdowns. Lindsey has committed to play basketball at UNLV.
