Late in Friday's 55-7 Level 2 win over Cambridge, Racine Lutheran senior Tyler Tenner made history. Running around right end, he picked up about eight yards to move him into first place all-time on the state's career rushing yards list. 

With 237 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries in the victory, Tenner now has 6,903 career yards, which eclipses the previous record of 6,870 yards set just last year by Iola-Scaninavia's Bryce Huettner.

While breaking one of the state's premier career marks has been a distinct possibility all season, Tenner has kept the focus elsewhere.

"He is such a great kid and hard worker," Racine Lutheran head coach Scott Smith told WSN earlier this week. "He has never spoken about the record he could break, he responds to everyone about it by saying, 'Let's win a state championship'."

One of the top contenders for state player of the year as a senior, he's up to 2,286 yards and 31 touchdowns on 223 carries in 2019 as the Crusaders are unbeaten and eyeing a possible return trip to Camp Randall. As a junior when Racine Lutheran finished as the Division 6 runner-up, Tenner carried the ball 226 times for 2,275 yards and 27 touchdowns.

A four-year varsity performer, Tenner started his career with 512 yards as a freshman before rocketing up to 1,830 yards as a sophomore.

Tenner has a chance to become the first player in state history to go over 7,000 career rushing yards, needing just 97 yards to reach the mark as the Crusaders take on defending Division 5 state champion Saint Mary's Springs next week in Level 3.
