PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: Oct. 28 - Nov. 3

Abby Bartel, Weyauwega-Fremont girls cross country: Abby took home an eleventh place finish last year as a freshman at the WIAA State Cross Country meet. She did exactly that. Abby took home gold in Division 3, running the course in a time of 18:52.9 minutes.

Kayci Martensen, Southwestern/Benton/Cuba City girls cross country: Like Abby, Kayci was trying to improve upon her finish last season at the WIAA State Cross Country meet. In her freshman year, Kayci finished in third place. This past weekend, she took home gold in the Division 2 field with a time of 18:19.9 minutes. Kayci's time blew away the competition by over 30 seconds.

Will Bailey, River Valley football: Will pioneered the River Valley Blackhawks to a 46-3 Level 2 playoff win this past Friday over Edgerton. From the quarterback position, Will completed 9 of 17 passes for 228 yards and three scores. He had passing touchdowns of 42, 83, and 14 yards. To round out the night, Will added an eight yard rushing touchdown to lead the Blackhawks onto a Level 3 matchup with Lakeside Lutheran.

Jake Krause, Hortonville boys cross country: Jake finished off his prep cross country career in grand fashion this past weekend, winning the Division 1 title. Jake ran the course in a time of 15:34.2. His first place finish was a big reason why Hortonville took third overall as a team in the Division 1 field.

Austin Gayle, Shorewood boys soccer: Austin was was spectacular in Shorewood matches in back to back nights, propelling them to a Sectional championship and a state berth. The top seeded Greyhounds faced off with Saint Thomas More in sectional semi-final action on Friday. Austin netted all four goals for his team as they won 4-3. He followed that up with another goal as Shorewood topped New Berlin West 2-1 for its first state appearance in boys soccer since 2004.
