Verona, Brookfield Central, Shorewood, and Sturgeon Bay claim Boys Soccer state titles

Champions were crowned at the 2019 WIAA Boys Soccer State Championships at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. 

In its first-ever state tournament appearance, Verona captured its first-ever state championship, taking down Neenah 2-0 in the final. Eliot Popkewitz and Jonathan Gamez had goals for the Wildcats. The top seed in Division 1, Verona won its semi-final game over Kenosha Tremper 3-0.

Brookfield Central claimed its first boys soccer state title since 1992, winning in a shootout against crosstown rival Brookfield East. The Lancers and Spartans were tied at one goal apiece in regular time before Central won the shootout 8-7. The three-seed in the Division 2 field, Brookfield Central downed second-seeded Elkhorn 2-1 in a semi-final.

After a decade-and-a-half away, Shorewood took down top seed McFarland in the championship game, 2-1, to claim the Division 3 boys soccer title. The Greyhounds got past Seymour 2-1 in the semi-finals.

A thrilling Division 4 title match went to overtime, where Sturgeon Bay got a game-winning header off a corner kick from Carson Dvorak to claim a 2-1 victory over The Prairie School. The second-seeded Clippers downed third-seeded Northland Pines 3-1 in the D4 semi-finals.
