Level 3 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Lourdes Academy Knights

In one of the bigger games in the state in Level 3, unbeaten Division 7 squads Hilbert and Lourdes Academy squared off for a trip to the state semi-finals. Lourdes Academy dominated the total yardage, but the game wasn't secured until the very end as the Knights held on for a 14-7 victory. Quarterback Joshua Bauer completed 18-of-23 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns, a 62-yarder to Caden Chier early in the second quarter and a 20-yarder to Preston Ruedinger late in the third. The Knights finished with 393 yards of offense compared to 230 for Hilbert. It is the first trip to the WIAA state semi-finals in school history.

Mondovi Buffaloes

Mondovi and Mineral Point played a wild, thrilling Level 3 game on Friday, each showing why they entered the Division 6 contest unbeaten on the season. While Mondovi led 14-12 at halftime, the Buffaloes found themselves trailing 22-14 entering the fourth quarter. They tied the game up on a one-yard Taner Marsh touchdown run, and it remained deadlocked at 22 until late in the fourth. With under a minute to go, Mineral Point picked off a Mondovi desperation pass inside the five yard-line. Eschewing playing for overtime, the Pointers tried passing the ball, and Mondovi's Carter Johnson stepped in front of a bubble screen to intercept Isaac Lindsey and return it three yards for a touchdown. Mondovi would pick off Lindsey again on a Hail Mary to give the defense five interceptions for the game. Marsh finished with 168 yards and two scores on the ground in the 29-22 win, while Johnson had the huge interception score plus a rushing touchdown to help make up for some struggles throwing the football. Mondovi is on to the state semi-finals for the first time since 1990.

Prairie du Chien Blackhawks

Prairie du Chien's defense has been outstanding this year, allowing just 11 points per game. They were even better than that in Level 3 against G-E-T, shutting out the Red Hawks in a 10-0 victory. Tyler Hannah scored the game's only touchdown on a four-yard run late in the first quarter, and Derek Grondin tacked on a 29-yard field goal late in the second to provide the only scoring in the game. Traeton Saint had 100 rushing yards for the Blackhawks, who racked up 212 yards on the ground as a team. The Prairie du Chien defense held G-E-T to 142 rushing yards after the Red Hawks posted 447 yards on the ground against Aquinas just a week ago. This is Prairie du Chien's first state semi-final appearance since a Division 3 runner-up finish in 1988.

Stratford Tigers

Another game, another shutout for the Stratford Tigers defense, which has held its first 12 opponents scoreless this season. In a game many had been anticipating since a controversial seeding result gave Northwestern the #1 seed and Level 3 home game, Stratford posted a dominating 35-0 victory. The running game ground out 287 yards and four touchdowns on 50 carries, while quarterback Max Schwabe took advantage of the few opportunities to pass, completing five-of-six for 78 yards and a score. The defense limited Northwestern to 116 yards of total offense in the game.

Waukesha West Wolverines

Waukesha West just has a thing for teams from the Southern Lakes Conference. With a 49-0 running clock win over Burlington on Friday, the Wolverines are now 12-0 in the playoffs against teams from the Southern Lakes since the 2012 season. It was over quickly in this one, as Brooks Blount threw four touchdowns in the opening quarter-and-a-half to help stake West to a 35-0 halftime lead. The second half went quickly with a running clock throughout, as Wolverine reserves added a couple more scores. Blount finished with 209 yards and four touchdowns on 11-of-19 passing and the Wolverines' defense picked off Burlington quarterback Dalton Damon four times, limiting the Demons to just 147 yards of offense.
