Marcus Orlandoni (#35) had the only score as Saint Mary's Springs won a third straight title

Saint Mary's Springs added to a number of state records, grinding out a 7-0 victory over Regis to claim the 2019 WIAA football Division 6 state title.

It is the ninth WIAA championship for the Ledgers and head coach Bob Hyland, two more than any other program. Springs also won eight championships in the WISAA private school association prior to joining the WIAA in 2000.

The Ledgers won it all in Division 5 last season and in Division 6 in 2017, becoming just the ninth team to win at least three consecutive WIAA titles, joining Stratford (2003-2008), Kimberly (2013-17). Amherst (2015-17), Lancaster (2000-02), Manitowoc (1984-86), Monroe (1990-92), Two Rivers (1980-82) and Waunakee (2009-11).

The game resembled Black Hawk/Warren (IL)'s 6-0 win over Edgar the game before in many ways. Springs' touchdown came late in the first quarter, and it was a defensive battle from there on out.

Regis drove into Springs territory just twice, and did not advance inside the Ledgers' 30-yard line. For the game, Regis put up just 134 yards of offense, with 131 of that coming on the ground.

Springs wasn't much better offensively, as both teams played outstanding defense. The Ledgers managed 167 yards on the game, with 156 coming on the ground, as the game moved very quickly with few pass attempts and just one score.

Saint Mary's Springs' lone scoring drive came on the first possession of the game, as the Ledgers offense ground out 19 plays in 80 yards, running 10:09 off the clock. It was capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Marcus Orlandoni.

Regis finishes the season 13-1, while Saint Mary's Springs improves to 12-2, winning the last 12 games of the season.
