PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: Nov. 18-24

Mason Buehler, Muskego football: Muskego came into Camp Randall on Friday looking to repeat as the Division 1 State Champions. Bay Port finally broke through and made it to Camp Randall for the first time in program history. Both teams were undefeated and set the stage for a major clash. Despite Muskego giving up over a 100 yards more of total offense, Muskego's defense was very much bend don't break en route to a 21-10 win. Mason was a big part of that defense, recording four tackles and intercepting two passes. Both of his interceptions came late in the fourth quarter and ended Bay Port's last two possessions.

Donavan Hunt, Brookfield East football: Donavan was absolutely dominant in the first half of the Division 2 state championship game against a very talented Waunakee squad. In the first half alone, Donavan racked up 186 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. That yardage output was more than the total yardage of six of the 10 teams in Divisions 3 through 7. He finished with 227 yards rushing, averaging 7.6 yards per carry, as Brookfield East won 31-30 and captured their second state championship in four years.

Luke Fox, Catholic Memorial football: Catholic Memorial put in another dominate showing in a state championship. For the second year in a row Luke pioneered the high powered offense as they took down Kiel 35-0 in the Division 4 championship. The lefty quarterback completed 16 of 23 passes for 253 yards and two scores. Luke added 103 yards rushing on nine carries and another touchdown. Catholic Memorial secured their second consecutive gold ball after winning in Division 3 last season.

Luke Haertle, Lake Country Lutheran football: Luke and the Lake Country Lutheran team matched up with an undefeated Stratford team in the Division 5 state championship that had given up seven points all season coming into the game. That didn't stop him from engineering the spread offense and leading Lake Country Lutheran to a 22-13 win and its first ever gold ball in football. Luke threw for 216 yards and a score, evading the constant pressure from the Stratford defense. He added 34 yards rushing, and had five tackles on defense.

Marcus Orlandoni, Saint Mary's Springs football: The Division 6 state championship game between Springs and Regis was a knock 'em out, drag 'em out contest between two stifling defenses. Marcus was the leader of the Springs defense that held Regis scoreless in their 7-0 win, recording a team best 15 tackles. Marcus also scored the only touchdown of the game, rushing the ball in from one yard out at the end of the first quarter. He finished with 74 yards on the ground as Springs won their seventh state championship in the last ten years.
