Wisconsin Lutheran head coach Ryan Walz hit a career milestone last week

Here are the Wisconsin Sports Network weekly award winners in boys' basketball for the games played December 1 through December 7:

Player of the Week

Donovan Short

Donavan Short, 6-9, Soph., F, Denmark
After receiving limited playing time for the varsity squad as a freshman, Donavan Short has stepped into a major role for the Vikings this season. The extremely skilled 6-foot-9 forward prospect is putting up huge numbers for first-year Denmark coach Scott Farr. Last week, Short scored 33 points and made four three-point baskets in a 65-62 triumph over Packerland Conference favorite Southern Door. He added 22 points and six rebounds in a 62-59 loss to Oconto Falls of the North Eastern Conference. In the Vikings' season-opening 73-48 triumph over Valders, Short finished with 32 points and drilled seven three-point shots. He is averaging 29.0 points and 8.0 rebounds and is quickly emerging as one of the state's more promising class of 2022 collegiate prospects thanks to his combination of size and skill.

Team of the Week

Drew Biber

Cedarburg Bulldogs
In a pair of statement victories, Cedarburg went on the road to register North Shore Conference triumphs over highly regarded Grafton and Homestead last week. Picked to finish eighth in the league by the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, the Bulldogs turned back Grafton 78-65 last Tuesday behind 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists from versatile and athletic 6-foot-5 junior wing Drew Biber. Senior guard Jake Leair (6-2) added 15 points and senior forward Nick Johnson (6-6) and junior guard Matthew Pilch (6-2) contributed 11 points apiece. Grafton is projected to finish second in the North Shore. Last Friday, Cedarburg recorded a 59-49 triumph at Homestead, picked for fourth in the North Shore. Biber scored 18 points and had nine rebounds to lead the way for coach Nick Mueller's Bulldogs. Senior wing Ben Ebacher (6-4) contributed 12 points while Leair and Johnson had 11 points each. The road to the North Shore Conference upper division continues this week for Cedarburg, which finished 3-20 a year ago. The Bulldogs travel to Whitefish Bay Tuesday before hosting Hartford on Friday.

Coach of the Week

Ryan Walz, Wisconsin Lutheran
Now in his 12th season as the head coach at Wisconsin Lutheran, Ryan Walz earned his 200th career triumph last Tuesday with a 91-69 non-league victory over Menomonee Falls. Senior guard Tyrese England (6-1) had 23 points and made 9 of 10 foul shots to lead the way for Wisconsin Lutheran, picked as a title contender in the deep and highly competitive Western Division of the Woodland Conference. Sophomore guard Jordan Glenn (5-10) contributed 22 points to the Vikings' cause. Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 2-0 on the campaign last Friday with a win over St. Croix Lutheran of Minnesota.
