PlayInTheDells.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: Dec. 9-15

Megan Benzschawel, Monroe girls basketball: Megan filled the stat sheet this past week in two Badger Conference wins for the Monroe girls basketball team. In a 50-31 win over Fort Atkinson, Megan had 13 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and four assists. She followed that up by scoring a career high 35 points in a 77-72 win over Oregon. She scored 21 of her points from the charity stripe, making 21 of 23 free throws. Megan added eight rebounds and six steals in the victory.

Grace Grocholski, Kettle Moraine girls basketball: Grace recorded a pair of 20 point games this past week as Kettle Moraine notched two wins. Grace didn't play anything like a freshman as Kettle Moraine took down Brookfield East 69-47. She scored a game high 22 points. Grace followed that up with a game high 27 point, 12 rebound performance in a 79-73 win over Muskego.

Alec Hunter, Oshkosh West wrestling: Alec currently sits as the top pranked wrestler in the 120 pound weight class in Division 1, according to Wisconsin Wrestling Online. Saturday Alec won the 120 pound individual title at the Battle of the Bay in Bay Port. In the finals, he bested sixth-ranked Cody Goebel of Mukwonago by a 6-1 final.

Gavin McGrath, Onalaska boys basketball: Gavin helped the undefeated Hilltoppers secure a pair of impressive victories this past week. In a 68-40 win over La Crescent, Gavin shot six of nine from the field, scoring 15 points while adding a pair of blocks. Onalaska then matched up with fellow undefeated DeForest on Saturday. He had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Gavin was also a force defensively, blocking six shots of DeForest.

Brandon Wilde, Palmyra-Eagle boys basketball: Brandon doesn't stuff the stat sheet with high scoring numbers game in and game out. He does however epitomize the concept of a floor general. In a 59-37 win over Parkview, Brandon had 16 assists and five steals from the point guard position. He then added 17 assists in a 63-41 win over Abundant Life/St. Ambrose. Despite only two combined points in the two victories, Brandon controlled the flow of the offense throughout. His willingness to make the extra pass allowed his teammates ample scoring opportunities.
