Looking Back

We'll start out with some unfortunate news, where it appears that once again a few teams are having difficulty fielding full squads after the semester break. Surprisingly, two of the three league-leaders out of the break are calling it quits: Richland and Marinette.

There was just one game contested on the court last week, and it was a rather low-scoring affair. Fox Cities led Marshfield 17-3 at halftime before going on for a 37-13 victory. While it took 28 shots, Skye Rodriguez (Kaukauna HS) was the game's top scorer with 19 points for Fox Cities, who scored its first win of the season.

Looking Ahead

With a couple programs dropping, the league is down to just five teams for the rest of the season. Wausau appears to be in a commanding position atop the standings at 5-1.

Tonight, Washington hosts Fox Cities, fresh off its first win of the year.

Several games will be held this weekend at the Champions Center in Appleton. Friday morning, Washington takes on Marshfield. On Saturday, league-leading Wausau takes on Fox Cities, while Barron squares off against Washington.

Washington's busy week continues next Monday as the Wildcats host the Lakeland JV squad.

WCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Skye Rodriguez, Fox Cities

Both teams had a hard time finding the basket last Wednesday as Fox Cities topped Marshfield 37-13, with Skye Rodriguez (Kaukauna HS) of Fox Cities the only player to score in double figures. The 5'5" first-year player had a game-high 19 points in the victory, also recording a career-high six steals in the contest.
