Looking Back

Sheboygan had wrapped up the WCC-East Division title a while ago, but the Wombats didn't necessarily plan to end the regular season with a loss. That's what happened, however, as Saturday in a home game, Sheboygan fall to Fox Cities 80-75. Indy Johal (Menasha HS) had a team-high 25 points to go with 15 rebounds in the victory.

Fox Cities had beaten Washington 97-94 last Wednesday, despite a 54-point, 16-rebounds performance by Washington's David Britton (Mountaintop Christian HS). Sheboygan was victorious last Wednesday as well, beating Waukesha 103-89.

The West Division title was very much up for grabs, even after Baraboo fell to Marshfield 89-69 last Wednesday. The Fighting Spirits of Baraboo still had a chance to claim a share of the division crown in the regular season finale with league-leading Wausau on Saturday, but came up short, as Wausau claimed an 84-73 victory.

Looking Ahead

It is on to the playoffs for WCC men's teams. Opening games will be held this Wednesday, followed by quarterfinal games on Saturday. The semifinals and finals are at JustAGame Fieldhouse for the WCC State Tournament on Saturday, February 22nd and Sunday, February 23rd.

WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mason Ellis, Manitowoc

Saturday's regular season finale between Manitowoc and Waukesha did not have division title implications, but a home playoff game was on the line. Waukesha raced out to a 52-41 halftime lead, but the Blue Devils of Manitowoc came roaring back to claim an exciting 93-89 victory. Three players went over 20 points, led by 28 from Mason Ellis (De Pere HS). Not only did he add six rebounds and a pair of steals, he did not commit a turnover in the game, finishing 10-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
