West Bend West's Maddison Baker selected as the state's top senior Defensive player

West Bend West's Maddison Baker has been selected as the top senior defensive player as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

Baker, a first-team WBCA all-state selection, uses her size, speed and athleticism to create steals and deflections, along with blocking and altering shots. 

The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 23.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 4.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game for coach Joe Pintens and the Spartans. Baker led them to a 23-3 record and Division 1 sectional final appearance before falling to No. 6 DSHA, 63-44. 

In a sectional semifinal win over No. 3 Germantown, Baker finished with 29 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks. 

The Minnesota soccer commit finished her career with 1,703 points, 1,207 rebounds, 282 steals and 242 blocks. 

Finalists for the award were Baker, Angie Cera of Mukwonago, Jada Donaldson of Beaver Dam, Kendall Renard of Green Bay Preble, and Skylar White of River Ridge. 

Past winners of the award include Kiarra Otto of Laconia, Emma Wittmershaus of Bangor (2018), Myriama Smith-Traore of Whitewater (2017), Morgan Glatczak of Mukwonago (2016), Taylor Higginbotham of Germantown (2015), Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk (2014), Emily Gustafson of South Shore (2013), and Alexis Lindstrom of Howards Grove (2012).
