Boys Basketball Alumni Round-up: Division 1 Award & All-Conference Special

Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. Tyrese Hailburton (Oshkosh North HS), Iowa State - Second Team All-Big 12

Tyrese came into the 2019-20 basketball season as a potential lottery pick by most experts for the 2020 NBA Draft. As the year progressed, the Iowa State sophomore shot up draft boards, projecting as a Top 5 pick by some.

In an early February win over Kansas State, Tyrese's season came to an early end, after he suffered a fractured wrist. Before his injury, Tyrese was averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. He ranked fourth in points and first in both steals and assists in the conference.

Before college, Tyrese was a two-time All-FVA First Team and Player of the Year selection. He was also named All-State in both his junior and senior seasons as he finished with 1,466 career points.

Te'Jon Lucas (Milwaukee Washington HS), UW-Milwaukee - Second Team All-Horizon League

Te'Jon sat out the 2018-19 campaign after transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from the University of Illinois. He stepped right into the starting rotation and became a big-time playmaker for the Panthers.

Over the course of the season, Te'Jon averaged 14.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also led the conference with 5.1 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game. He scored a career high 31 points twice in victories over UW-Green Bay and IUPUI.

While at Milwaukee Washington, Te'Jon was named the 2015-16 WSN Point Guard award winner while also taking home first team All-State honors. He scored over 1,400 points. Te'Jon was the Milwaukee City Conference Player of the Year as a senior and Woodland-East Player of the Year at Shorewood High School as a sophomore.

Bill Wampler (Regis HS), Wright State - Second Team All-Horizon League

Bill spent his first two collegiate seasons at Drake University before transferring to Wright State after the 2016-17 basketball season. Since, he's been a scoring machine for the Raiders.

This past season, Bill averaged 15.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He ranked in the top ten in scoring in the Horizon League. Bill scored 20 or more points in nine games, and surpassed 1,000 career points in his senior campaign. He helped Wright State to just their third ever Horizon League regular season title.

At Regis High School, Bill was a two-time All-State selection. He was named the Player of the Year in the Cloverbelt-West Conference in both his junior and senior seasons. He finished his prep career with 1,892 points.

Grant Basile (Pewaukee HS), Wright State - Horizon League All-Freshman

Grant had a great freshman season after redshirting the 2018-19 season out of high school. He averaged a little over 14 minutes a game for Wright State and made five straight starts in the middle of December, where he recorded a pair of double-doubles.

Through his freshman campaign, Grant averaged 6.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He recorded three double-doubles and had a career high 23 points in a win over Southern University. He was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week once.

While playing at Pewaukee, Grant was named the 2017-18 WSN Post Award winner and also an All-State selection. He scored over 1,000 points in his prep career and was a two-time Woodland-West first-teamer, including Player of the Year honors as a senior.

Chris Knight (Madison Memorial HS), Dartmouth - Second Team All-Ivy League

Chris built upon a great sophomore season at Dartmouth where he was second year all-conference selection. Along the way, he surpassed a scoring milestone and repeated his all-conference recognition.

Knight's 14.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks all ranked in the top 10 in the conference on the year. His 54% shooting percentage ranked second in the conference as well. In just his junior year, Chris surpassed the 1,000 point mark and is closing in on 500 rebounds.

During his prep career at Madison Memorial, Chris scored over 1,000 points and averaged a double-double in his senior year. His senior year was filled with accolades, receiving the WSN Defensive award as well as being named First Team All-State. He was the Big Eight Conference Player of the Year his senior year, and named first team all-conference in his last two seasons.

Ben Vander Plas (Ripon HS), Ohio - Third Team All-Mid-American

Last season, Ben was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. He continued his progression, starting every game but one for the Ohio Bobcats this year.

Ben averaged 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in his sophomore campaign. He recorded five double-doubles and ranked ninth in the league in scoring and eleventh in rebounding throughout the season.

In four years at Ripon High School, Ben scored over 1,600 points and hauled in over 1,000 rebounds in his prep career. Ben was a three time, first team, all-conference selection. During his junior and senior years, he earned All-State honors as well as being named the East Central Conference Player of the Year.

Marcus Domask (Waupun HS), Southern Illinois - Missouri Valley Freshman & Newcomer of the Year

After being named Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin last year, Marcus put together a phenomenal freshman season at Southern Illinois. Along with the Freshman and Newcomer of the Year selections, Marcus was named second team all conference and to the freshman and newcomer conference teams.

Marcus filled stat sheets constantly in his first college season, averaging 13.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He came very close to having a 50/40/90 season after shooting 47% from the field, 40% from three, and 83% from the free throw line. Marcus was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week three times during the season. In a thrilling win over Missouri State, Marcus caught a full-court pass and made game winning jumper over three defenders as time expired.

Along with his 2019 Mr. Basketball selection, Marcus was named the WSN Wing Award winner his senior year at Ripon. He was named All-State and East Central All-Conference all four years of his prep career, including being named the East Central All-Conference Player of the Year in both his junior and senior seasons. Marcus finished his prep career with 2,307 points, which ranked thirteenth in state history coming into this past year.

Koreem Ozier (Racine Case HS), Sacred Heart - Third Team All-Northeast

Koreem came into his sophomore season at Sacred Heart as a proven scoring threat, averaging 14 points per game as a freshman.

In staying consistent, Koreem finished the season averaging 14 points per game. He scored over 20 points in six contests, including a 30 point outbreak against Pine Manor. He finished ranked tenth in the conference in points per game and has 754 total points through his first two college seasons.

In just three seasons at Racine Case, Koreem scored over 1,400 points, setting the school record. He was named to the Southeast Conference first team twice. In his junior season, Koreem was named the Southeast Conference Player of the Year as well as being recognized as an All-State selection.

DeVante Jackson (Brown Deer HS), Grambling - Second Team All-SWAC

DeVante took a leap his senior year at Grambling, starting all but two games for the Tigers and leading them to a 17-15 record.

Averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds, DeVante ranked in the top fifteen in both of those categories within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He shot nearly 52% from the field which placed him second in the conference in that category. In just the third game of the season, DeVante had a season high 26 points in just 25 minutes in a victory over Southeastern Louisiana.

DeVante's senior season at Brown Deer was one filled with accolades. He was named the 2013-14 WSN Post Player winner. He was also named first team Woodland-East All-Conference and a first team All-State selection.

Marlon Ruffin (Sun Prairie HS), Omaha - Summit League Sixth Man of the Year

Marlon spent his first year out of high school attending Highland Community College in Illinois where he garnered second-team All-NJCAA Region IV and all-conference recognition. In his first year at Omaha, Marlon averaged over 20 minutes per game coming off the bench for the Mavericks.

As the year progressed, Marlon saw his hard work pay off in the form of more playing time. He took every advantage en route to averaging 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds off the bench. In a 93-86 win over Western Illinois, Marlon erupted for a career high 33 points on 11 of 15 shooting.

Marlon's prep career was one that culminated in accolades his senior year. He was named an All-State selection as well as Big Eight Player of the Year. In both his junior and senior seasons, Marlon was named to the Big Eight All-Conference team and scored over 1,000 points in his prep career.

Luke Loewe (Fond du Lac HS), William & Mary - Colonial All-Defensive Team

Luke saw a steady rise in production from his first two seasons at William & Mary to his junior campaign. He has started the last 63 games for the Tribe, including all 32 this past year.

Luke upped his offensive production this year, from averaging 3.9 points as a sophomore to 10.7 as a junior. He expanded his role in the offense and was a bright spot on the defensive side of things. In a win over James Madison, Luke erupted for a career high 27 points on 10 of 11 shooting.

Luke spent his prep career attending Ripon High School for his first three seasons before transferring to Fond du Lac High School. He was a two-time All-State selection and finished his prep career with over 1,500 points. He was named first-team All-Eastern Valley Conference in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. Ripon then moved to the East Central Conference where Luke was a first-team all-conference athlete his junior year. His senior year he was a first-team All-Fox Valley Association nominee.
