Keonte Jones

Keonte Jones most definitely is a capable offensive player for the Madison East boys' basketball team.

The three-year varsity performer averaged 14.3 points for a balanced squad that finished the season with a 20-4 record under coach Matt Miota.

But the biggest impact Jones made all season, in each and every game, was his strong play on the defensive end of the court.

Using his impressive length, athleticism and basketball instincts, the 6-foot-3 Jones made things very difficult for star players of opposing teams.

He averaged 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.9 blocked shots while helping the Purgolders finish second in the Big Eight Conference standings and earn a spot against arch-rival Madison La Follette in the WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinals.

The COVID-19 disease ended the season for Jones and his teammates, but for his consistent efforts, Jones has been named the top senior Defensive player as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards.

A good collegiate prospect due to his skill on defense and overall athleticism, Jones turned in one of his better games of the season in Madison East's biggest win of the campaign.

Playing at previously unbeaten Madison La Follette on February 21, Jones scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds, handed out two assists and blocked six shots in the Lancers' 90-85 overtime triumph.

That type of performance helped to earn Jones the honor of being voted as the Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Eight.

Jones remains undecided about his future plans in the sport, but is receiving recruiting interest from several strong collegiate programs in the Midwest.
