The most impressive statistic Max Klesmit of Neenah put up during the 2019-20 season?

That's easy.

The 23-2 record Neenah finished the campaign with following a highly competitive sectional semifinal victory over Chippewa Falls.

After losing three starters from a club that went 19-8 and lost to Brookfield Central in the WIAA State Tournament semifinals a year ago, some felt the Rockets might be a bit vulnerable in 2019-20.

But Klesmit made sure that did not happen.

The talented and extremely productive point guard led Neenah to another hugely successful season under coach Lee Rabas by averaging 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists.

The NCAA Division I recruit for Wofford College thus earned the honor of the best senior point guard in the annual Wisconsin Sports Network Senior Basketball awards.

The 6-foot-3 lead guard led the FVA in scoring and helped Neenah to 14 consecutive wins entering what would have been a sectional final against league-rival Kimberly.

The COVID-19 disease wiped out that contest so Klesmit and Co. didn't have the chance to earn another trip to the Kohl Center in Madison for the state tournament. And after Kimberly and Neenah split their two league outings, a third match-up with so much on the line was greatly anticipated.

Nonetheless, Klesmit finished his career as one of the all-time greats in the long and extremely storied history of Neenah High School basketball with 1,636 points.

Klesmit shot 51 percent from the field, 82 percent (160 of 195) from the free-throw line and 36 percent (58 of 162) from three-point range. He finished fourth in the state in made foul shots and ended the season as the second-leading scorer among WIAA Division 1 schools.
