Boys Basketball Alumni Round-up: Division 2 Award & All-Conference Special

Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. Kyle Monroe (Ashwaubenon HS), Michigan Tech - GLIAC Player of the Year

Kyle entered his senior season coming off a 2018-19 season that was wiped due to a pre-season injury. He picked up right where he left off, garnering a first-team all-conference selection for his third time. He was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year during the 2015-16 season. In addition to his GLIAC Player of the Year award win, Kyle was named the Midwest Region Player of the Year by the Conference Commissioners Association. Just recently he was also named to the NABC Midwest All-Region team and the Division 2 All-American team.

Kyle averaged 23 points per game on the season, scoring 712 total points. Over the course of the year, he broke the Michigan Tech and GLIAC career scoring records. His 1,875 points in GLIAC play is a conference record, while his 2,542 total points are a school high. He added 811 career rebounds for the Huskies. He was named the GLIAC Player of the week seven times this season.

During his prep career at Ashwaubenon, Kyle scored over 1,600 points. During his junior and senior seasons, he was a first-team all-conference selection in the Fox River Classic. He also received All-State recognition in his last two seasons and was named the Fox River Classic Player of the Year twice.

Owen White (Rhinelander HS), Michigan Tech - GLIAC All-Defensive Team

Owen upped his production in year two after an already successful freshman campaign where he started 17 games. He started all 31 games this past year and was a stalwart defensively.

During this past sophomore season, Owen averaged over 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game; both improvements from year one to year two. Defensively he blocked over one shot per game, and nearly had a steal per game as well.

Owen amassed over 1,000 career points and averaged a double-double through most of his prep career. He was a first-team all-conference selection in the Great Northern Conference in his last three seasons. Owen was named the Great Northern Player of the Year in both his sophomore and senior seasons.

Isaac Appleby (Eau Claire Memorial HS), Michigan Tech - GLIAC All-Defensive Team

Isaac may have taken a step back in minutes played this year for the Huskies, but his production stayed constant.

In his junior season, Isaac averaged 7.3 points, 5.5 rebounds per game and had an assist/turnover ratio of 2.5. All of those were improvements from his sophomore season. In his three seasons, he has amassed over 600 points at Michigan Tech.

Isaac progressed year-to-year at Eau Claire Memorial, improving his points per game average by over 12 points from his sophomore to his senior season. That correlated to him being name honorable mention All-Big Rivers as a sophomore, second-team as a junior, and making the first team as a senior.

Patrick Cartier (Brookfield East HS), Hillsdale - Great Lakes Valley Freshman of the Year

After redshirting last season, Patrick exploded onto the scene in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Along with his Freshman of the Year recognition, he was named a first-team Great Lake Valley All-Conference selection.

Patrick averaged 16.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in his freshman campaign. He shot a scorching 64.7% from the field, which led the league by a wide margin and ranked eleventh nationally.

In his senior season, Patrick led Brookfield East to a runner-up finish in Division 1 at the WIAA State Tournament. In the semi-finals, he made this game winner to stun Jalen Johnson and the Sun Prairie Cardinals. He was named the Greater Metro Conference Player of the year that season and earned first-team all-conference for the second straight year. He was also named to the WBCA All-State team. During his career, Patrick averaged over 17 points per game and scored over 1,100 total.

Davis Larson (Sheboygan North HS), Hillsdale - Second Team All-Great Midwest

Davis busted onto the scene last year earning first team all-conference honors. This year an early February injury probably kept him from those same honors this season.

Despite his year being cut short, Davis averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game in his junior year for the Chargers. He shot over 51% from the field and 41% from three. Davis will go into his senior season needing right around 280 points to surpass 1,000 in his career.

Davis was a four year varsity performer at Sheboygan North and when he left, was the leading scorer in school history with 1,733 points. He was a first team All-Fox River Classic selection his last three seasons and was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year in his senior year.

Taurus Adams II (Brown Deer HS), Southern Connecticut State - Third Team All-Northeast-10

Taurus earned steadily more minutes through his four years at Southern Connecticut State, so much to the point that he broke through and found himself entrenched in the starting lineup in this his senior year.

He was a double-double machine this season as he averaged 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He recorded a whopping ten double-doubles in 23 games. He was eleventh in the conference in scoring and fourth in rebounds.

Taurus was a part of a very successful Brown Deer program during his time there. In both his sophomore and junior seasons, they won a state championship in Division 3. Taurus was a two-time Woodland-East first-team all conference selection. In his senior year he averaged 21 points per game as he was named the conference's Player of the Year. He also received All-State laurels and was named the WSN Post Award winner his senior year.

Brandon Myer (Superior HS), Minnesota Duluth - Northern Sun Conference Player of the Year

Brandon capped an incredible four year stint at Minnesota Duluth with many and more accolades beyond the Northern Sun Conference Player of the Year. He was named a conference first-teamer for the second straight season. Just today, Brandon was also named to the NABC's Central All-Region first team. Lastly, Brandon was named a Division II All-American by the NABC.

During his senior year, Brandon amassed over 730 points. His 23.7 points per game average and 9.7 rebounds per game ranked him second and third in the division respectively. In the last game of the year, Brandon became the school's all-time leading scorer, finishing with 2,045 total. He also finished his career with 874 career rebounds, which stands at fourth in school history.

In just two seasons at Superior High School, Brandon scored over 750 points and hauled in over 130 rebounds. He was named first-team all conference as a senior.

Harrison Cleary (Oak Creek HS), Minnesota-Crookston - First Team All-Northern Sun

Like Brandon before him, Harrison has had a truly dominant four years in the Northern Sun Conference. He capped off his collegiate career with his third first-team all conference nod. Harrison also was named to the NABC Central All-District Second Team. Lastly, Harrison was named Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Harrison led the conference in scoring, averaging over 26 points per game. He also averaged over four assists per game. In his career, Harrison scored 2,846 points. That mark puts him 16th all-time in Division II basketball and is the most a player has scored since 1992. He is the Northern Sun's all-time leading scorer with 2,107 career points in conference play. He holds over 10 school records including leading scorer, most assists, and games played.

At Oak Creek High School, Harrison became the school's all-time leading scorer finishing with over 1,300 career points. In both his junior and senior season, he was named a first team All-Southeastern Conference honoree. To go along with that, his senior season he was awarded the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year award.

Caleb Wagner (Muskego), Winona State - First Team All-Northern Sun

In both his sophomore and junior seasons, Caleb was a mainstay in the starting rotation and even earned second team all conference honors in his sophomore season. This past season, Caleb took a leap forward as he received first team all conference recognition. To go along with his stellar court play, he was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team.

Caleb upped his scoring from 13.9 points per game his junior year to over 20 his senior. He consistently dished the ball out at a high pace as well, averaging over four a game. He finished fourth in the league in scoring and eighth in assists, while totaling 1,449 points and 390 assists in his career.

In Caleb's senior season, he helped lead Muskego to just their second ever state appearance. They came away with a runner-up finish to powerhouse Stevens Point. Caleb was a two-time Classic Eight first team selection as well as being named the conference's Player of the Year during his senior season. During that campaign, he averaged over 22 points per game en route to garnering First Team All-State honors.

Kevion Taylor (Whitnall HS), Winona State - First Team All-Northern Sun

Kevion earned second team all conference honors last season as a sophomore in the Northern Sun. This season, he continued to fine tune and develop his all-around game.

Caleb Wagner and Kevion formed quite the duo for Winona State as the latter game just .8 points from averaging 20 points per game like his teammate. Kevion averaged 19.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest on the season. He shot nearly 40% from beyond the arc, which was good for third best in the league. Kevion has a slight chance at surpassing 2,000 points in his career next season as he'll enter his senior campaign with 1,368 total points.

Just like in college, Kevion formed a dynamic duo in high school as well, teaming with Tyler Herro at Whitnall High School. He helped lead Whitnall to a state appearance in his junior season and was named a conference first-teamer in his last two seasons. Kevion scored over 1,300 points and hauled in nearly 500 rebounds in his prep career.

Drew Blair (Stevens Point HS), Minnesota Duluth - Second Team All-Northern Sun

Drew spent his first year of college at Northwest Missouri State before transferring to Duluth in the 2019 spring semester. He immediately worked his way into the starting rotation, starting every game this year for the Bulldogs.

In his first full season of college basketball, Drew averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He came dangerously close to posting a 50/40/90 season finishing the season shooting 49% from the field, 39% from three, and 88% from the free throw line.

Drew was a part of two different Division 1 WIAA State Championship teams while at Stevens Point High School. He was a two time Wisconsin Valley first team selection as well as being named the conference's Player of the Year twice. He was also named to the WBCA All-State team twice and earned the WSN Shooter Award during his senior campaign. Drew finished with 1,565 points including 753 in his senior year.

Nick Wagner (G-E-T HS), Bemidji State - Honorable Mention All-Northern Sun

Nick has been a journeyman of sorts since leaving G-E-T High School. He spent his first three seasons out of school attending Northern Illinois, Iowa Lake Community College, and Indian Hills Community College before landing at Bemidji State.

He may have found a home as he averaged over 14.7 points a game for the Beavers. He shot a robust 41% from beyond the arc, good enough for second in the entire conference. He made 80 three pointers on the season.

While at G-E-T, Nick guided them to a state tournament appearance his senior season. During his four seasons, he garnered first team all conference in the Coulee Conference and was named a WBCA All-State selection in Division 3 in his last three years. In addition, he was named the Coulee Conference Player of the Year three straight seasons and finished his prep career with over 1,700 points.
