Needing a victory for forge a deadlock atop the standings in the Middle Border Conference, Prescott traveled to front-running New Richmond on February 4th and came away with a pulsating 82-80 triumph in double overtime.

To say it was a well-earned victory for coach Nick Johnson's club would be a vast understatement.

Time and again it appeared Prescott had built a somewhat comfortable lead only to have New Richmond rally.

After the teams battled to a 30-30 standstill through the first half, New Richmond fell behind 62-55 with just under two minutes left in the contest.

However, the Tigers got four three-point baskets -- two each from senior Joey Kidder and junior Owen Covey -- in the last minute of regulation to force the overtime period. Kidder drilled a three pointer from the top of the key in the closing seconds of regulation to tie the game at 70.

New Richmond, which finished the season with 20-4 record and a share of the Middle Border title under coach Rick Montreal, had a chance to win the game at the end of the first overtime, but Covey's three-point attempt was off the mark.

With Prescott ahead 82-80 and the clock winding down in the second overtime, Kidder had the ball in his hands and was poised to take either a game-winning or game-tying shot when 6-foot-8 Jacob Doffing of Prescott came out to guard Kidder and wound up preventing a score.

Senior point guard Parker Nielsen (6-4) was outstanding all game long for Prescott. The NCAA Division II recruit for West Texas A&M finished with 35 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Doffing, who is headed to NCAA Division III Superior, added 21 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while senior guard Dylan Malmlov (5-9) contributed 10 points and five rebounds for Prescott, which went 21-4 and was set to play Wisconsin Dells in a WIAA Division 3 sectional final before COVID-19 ended the season.

Kidder, a 6-foot-3 guard who shared Player of the Year honors in the Middle Border with Nielsen, also had a huge game as he finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Kiddler remains uncommitted and is one of the state's top available seniors.

Promising 6-foot-5 sophomore wing C.J. Campbell added 20 points and three rebounds while Covey came off the bench to score 10 points.
