The two contests during the 2019-20 season between East Central Conference rivals Plymouth and Kettle Moraine Lutheran both went into overtime and each school won on its home court.

However, Plymouth's 85-82 triumph on February 21 proved to be the bigger of the two contests as it clinched at least a share of the league championship.

The Panthers would go on to beat Winneconne six days later to win the league crown outright under coach Tim Schultz. It was the school's first conference title in boys' basketball since the Panthers won the Eastern Wisconsin Conference crown in 2013-14.

Trailing 61-45 with just under eight minute left, Plymouth used a 27-11 run to force the overtime period. Sophomore Kellan Mella, who had hit a huge three-point basket a few minutes earlier, sank one of two foul shots with five seconds left to tie the game at 72.

Another sophomore -- 6-foot-8 forward Jeb Nytes -- scored all 14 of his points in the second half and overtime as Plymouth overcame a 33-25 halftime deficit and a 14-0 run by Kettle Moraine Lutheran to win the wild contest.

Senior guard Cole Booth (6-2), a NCAA Division III recruit for Oshkosh, was outstanding for Plymouth as he finished with 35 points, three rebounds, six assists and made all 10 of his free-throw tries.

Senior guard Cooper Gosse (6-1) matched Nytes with 14 points for the Panthers while Mella came off the bench to score 13.

Plymouth completed its season with a 19-4 record after falling to Cedarburg in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal.

Jacob Stoltz

Meanwhile, Kettle Moraine Lutheran got 21 points, six rebounds and six assists from its stellar senior, guard Jacob Stoltz (5-11). Stoltz averaged 22.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.0 assists on the season for the Chargers, who finished 22-3 under coach Joshua Lindner and were prepared to play Racine St. Catherine's in a WIAA Division 3 sectional final before COVID-19 ended the campaign.

Senior Ethan Duba (6-1) added 17 points and seven rebounds to the KML cause while senior Austin Schaff (5-11) and sophomore Austin Wagner (6-4) contributed 13 points apiece.
