Boys Basketball Alumni Round-up: NAIA and D3 Cont. Award & All-Conference Special

Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. If you have alumni news, please send it to Colton Wilson.

Andrew Bruggink

Andrew Bruggink (Brookfield Central HS), Wisconsin Lutheran College - NACC Player of the Year

In his first two years after high school, Andrew attended UW-La Crosse before transferring to Wisconsin Lutheran College before last season. He was a NACC Honorable Mention in his first year and took another big step this season, earning Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference status in the NACC. Along with the conference accolades, Andrew was named to the D3hoops.com All-Central Region Second Team and the NABC Second Team All-District. He was a five time NACC Student-Athlete of the Week and a part of the D3hoops.com Team of the Week once.

After averaging 16.7 points in his junior season, Andrew upped that to 24.2 points per game this season. He came dangerously close to a 50/40/90 season as he shot 48% from the field, 42% from three, and 88% from the free throw line. Andrew also averaged 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1 steal per game. In just two seasons at Wisconsin Lutheran, Andrew amassed 1,047 points.

Andrew was a two-year varsity performer for Brookfield Central. Both seasons he was named a First Team All-Great Metro selection, including a conference Player of Year nod during his senior campaign. He was also a WBCA All-State Honorable Mention as a senior. In just two seasons, Andrew scored over 800 points and hauled in over 340 rebounds.

Jordan Johnson (Cedarburg HS), Concordia-Wisconsin - First Team All-NACC

In three seasons at Concordia-Wisconsin, Jordan was named the NACC Freshman of the Year during his first season, a Second Team All-Conference selection as a sophomore, and was a first teamer this past season. Jordan was second in the league in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game. In just three seasons, he has already scored 1,356 points, averaging 16.5 per game. Jordan was named the NACC Player of the Week three times this season.

Jordan was a four-year varsity performer at Cedarburg High School and scored nearly 1,400 points total. During his senior season, Jordan helped lead his team to a WIAA Division 2 State Runner-Up finish. He was also named a North Shore First Team All-Conference selection his senior year.

Jared Jurss (Sheboygan Lutheran HS), Concordia-Wisconsin - First Team NACC

Jared was a do-it-all player for Concordia-Wisconsin, earning First Team honors. He averaged over 10 points per game and led the whole conference with 6.8 assists per game. His 197 assists on the year set an all-time single season record.

In his four seasons at Sheboygan Lutheran, Jared averaged over 13.9 points per game and 5.1 assists. He scored 1,336 points and dished out 356 assists during his prep career. As a sophomore and junior, Jared earned Second Team All-Big East Conference honors and was a First Team selection his senior year. He was also named a WBCA Division 5 All-State honoree his senior season.

Matthew Kirmse (Port Washington HS), MSOE - First Team All-NACC

Last season, Matthew took home all sorts of honors, including being named the NACC Player of the Year. This season, he was named an All-Conference First Team member for the third straight season after averaging over 17.4 points per game. For his career, Matthew has scored 1,614 points which ranks him fourth in school history. He’s also made 252 career three-pointers which is an all-time school record.

Matthew was a two-year varsity player while at Port Washington High School. During his senior season, he averaged over 17 points per game and was named a North Shore Conference Second Team performer. In just those two years of varsity play, Matthew scored over 600 career points.

Michael Pitrof (Pius XI HS), MSOE - Second Team All-NACC

In his second season at MSOE, Michael earned his way into the starting rotation and averaged over 15 points per game for the Raiders. He added 5.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals to stuff the stat sheet. His 49.5% field goal and 78.2% free throw percentage ranked him in the top 17 in conference in both categories.

Michael earned All-Woodland-West honors in both his junior and senior seasons at Pius XI. He was an Honorable Mention selection his junior year and a Second Team honoree his senior season. In 54 games, Michael scored over 450 points, averaging 10.5 during his senior year.

Alex VanCrete (Princeton/Green Lake HS), Wisconsin Lutheran College - Honorable Mention All-NACC

Last season, Alex made just two starts in 25 games. This past season, he started all 26 on his way to an Honorable Mention selection. Doubling his minutes from last season, he upped his points per game from 2.8 to 10.8. In addition. Alex added 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Alex was a two-time, All-Trailways selection during his junior and senior season at Princeton/Green Lake. During his four year prep career, Alex averaged 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds, totaling over 1,300 points and nearly 700 rebounds in all.


Ben Seefeld

Jake Negus (Janesville Craig HS), Edgewood College - Second Team All-NACC

Jake was named a First Team All-Conference selection as a sophomore and continued his success through into his junior year. He was sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. He added 4.5 rebounds and was third in the conference with 4.3 assists per game. In just three seasons, Jake has scored 1,155 points in his 70 starts. He currently is fourteenth in program history with that scoring total.

Jake was a three-time Honorable Mention All-Big Eight Conference selection at Janesville Craig. He played over 75 games in his prep career, averaging over nine points per game. In total, Jake scored nearly 700 points during his four years.

Ben Seefeld (Arrowhead HS), Edgewood College - Second Team All-NACC

Like teammate Jake, Ben was a prolific scorer this past season as he earned his Second Team All-Conference selection. He led the team and was third in the conference, averaging 18.3 points per game. Ben sits at 984 career points, which puts him twentieth in program history.

Ben led Arrowhead High School to a Division 1 WIAA State Championship Runner-Up finish his senior year. In his junior year, he averaged over 13 points per game en route to a Second Team All-Classic Eight nod. He upped his scoring to 17.6 points per game, garnering First Team recognition his senior year. Ben finished with 919 career points at Arrowhead.

Carlos Campos (Janesville Parker HS), Lakeland College - Second Team All-NACC

Carlos earned Honorable Mention All-NACC as a sophomore before taking home Second Team laurels in this, his senior year. He averaged over 13 points a game for Lakeland, which led the team. Carlos finished his college career with 949 career points.

In his senior year at Janesville Parker, Carlos averaged over 18 points per game, almost doubling his output from his junior season. He was named an All-Big Eight Third Team honoree. In 42 games of varsity ball, Carlos scored 572 points at Parker.

Trenton Nickel (Kiel HS), Lakeland College - Second Team All-NACC

After coming off the bench in both his freshman and sophomore seasons, Trenton earned his way into the starting rotation and took full advantage. He was an efficient scorer as he averaged 10.2 points per game. His 56% shooting percentage ranked fourth in the conference, while his 50% efficiency from three led the league.

While at Kiel High School, Trenton was a three-time All-Eastern Wisconsin selection, earning Second Team honors his sophomore and junior years while being named First Team as a senior. During his senior campaign, he averaged over 20 points per game, seven more than his prep career average. In his 94 games of varsity experience, Trenton amassed 1,249 total points.

Tyree Young (Nicolet HS), Viterbo University - First Team All-North Star Athletic Association

Tyree spent his first two seasons out of high school at Madison College before transferring to Viterbo before last season. In his second year starting for the V-Hawks, he nearly doubled his scoring and rebounding output. He was fourth in the conference in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. Tyree was also third in conference in rebounding (7.1), assists (3.8), and steals (1.7) per game.

At Nicolet High School, Tyree was a two-year varsity performer for the Knights. As a senior, he averaged over 13 points per game which more than doubled his output from his junior season.

Noah Fredrickson (Onalaska HS), Viterbo University - Honorable Mention All-North Star Athletic Association

Like Tyree, Noah about doubled his scoring average this season for the V-Hawks. After scoring 7.4 points per game as a sophomore, Noah upped that to 13.2 points per game as he started all 29 games. In his three seasons, he’s scored 664 points and has added over 175 total assists.

Noah was a four-year varsity performer at Onalaska High School. He averaged nearly nine points per game in his four years, scoring 833 total points. During his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, Noah was an All-Mississippi Valley Conference performer.
