New Berlin Eisenhower and Pewaukee have had some good battles over the years in Woodland play.

On January 7 they had another instant classic as New Berlin Eisenhower knocked off Pewakee, 53-51, on a buzzer-beater by Kylie Lemberger.

With the game tied at 51 with 3.3 seconds remaining, New Berlin Eisenhower had to go the length of the floor after Pewaukee tied the game up.

After an inbound pass to Minnesota signee Erin Hedman at the free throw line, she turned and made a great pass to Kylie Lemberger on the left wing and her shot banked to give the Lions a 53-51 win over Pewaukee, ranked No. 3 in Division 2 at the time.

Lemberger, a 5-foot-10 junior, finished with 13 points, including the game-winner for the Lions. She shot 2-for-4 from the floor and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

Hedman, a 6-foot-3 senior, finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and a steal in the win.

Nikki Dienberg, a 5-foot-7 junior, scored a game-high 17 points, and added five rebounds, four assists and a steal for coach Andy Monfre and the Lions.

Pewaukee was led by 5-foot-9 sophomore Sarah Newcomer, who finished with a team-best 16 points. Senior Lauren Schill added 10 points for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates.

New Berlin Eisenhower ended a three game losing skid and the Lions would go on to win 13 of their next 14 games before falling to Pewaukee, 55-50, in a sectional semifinal.

Pewaukee would go on to defeat another Woodland West foe in Pius XI Catholic in a Division 2 sectional final, 73-42, to reach the state tournament for the first time in program history.

The Pirates were set to play three-time defending Division 2 state champion Beaver Dam before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
