Girls Basketball Alumni Round-up: Division 1 Award & All-Conference Special

Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. Frankie Wurtz (Kimberly HS), UW-Green Bay - First Team All-Horizon League

Frankie capped off an ever-improving four year stint at UW-Green Bay by garnering the All-Conference honors she did. She helped lead the Phoenix to a 19-13 record and a third-place finish in the Horizon League Conference. Along with her First Team nod, Frankie was named to the All-Defensive Team.

On the year, Frankie averaged 15.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game; all career highs. Her points per game output was fifth in the Horizon League, and she ranked third in steals. Frankie surpassed the 1,000 point milestone in her career this past year and recorded a pair of double-doubles.

At Kimberly High School, Frankie was a four-year varsity performer. In her senior year, she suffered a torn ACL seven games into the season, cutting her prep career short. Despite that, she still scored over 1,100 career points and was named a Fox Valley Association First Team All-Conference selection. During both her sophomore and junior years, she was a First Team selection as well as earning the league’s Player of the Year. Frankie was also a two-time, First Team WBCA All-State honoree.

Caitlyn Hibner (Portage HS), UW-Green Bay - Third Team All-Horizon League

Caitlyn missed the entire 2018-19 season due to an injury, but bounced back in a great way in her junior campaign. She was named to the conference’s All-Freshman team during the 2016-17 season and has improved since.

On the year, Caitlyn averaged 10.9 points and 7.0 rebounds. She also averaged just under one block and one steal per game for the Phoenix. She had three double-doubles on the year and scored a season high 30 points in a thrilling overtime win over Syracuse.

While at Portage High School, Caitlyn was a four-year starter and also a four-time, First Team All-Badger-North selection. During her senior season, she averaged over 21 points and six rebounds per game as she was named to the WBCA Division 2 All-State Team for the second consecutive season. Caitlyn finished with 1,429 career points at Portage.

Mariah Miller (Brookfield East HS), Cleveland State - First Team All-Horizon League

For the second straight season, Mariah was named to the Horizon League First Team. She fueled the Vikings to a 21-11 record and finished in the top 20 in Cleveland State school history in both total points and rebounds.

On the season, Mariah averaged 16.8 points and 7.6 rebounds for Cleveland State. She tallied eight double-doubles on the year. Mariah was second in the Horizon League in scoring, fourth in rebounding, and third in minutes played. In her collegiate career, Mariah finished with 1,160 total points and 667 rebounds.

While at Brookfield East High School, Mariah was a four-time Greater-Metro All-Conference selection. During her freshman season, she was a Second Team selection, then earned First Team laurels her last three years. She scored over 1,200 points and hauled in over 800 rebounds, nearing a double-double for her career average. Her senior year she was named to the WBCA All-State team, capping off her prep career.

Savanna Crockett (Milwaukee Vincent HS), Cleveland State - Third Team All-Horizon League

After being named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year last season, Savanna continued to excel on the hardwood for the Vikings. She tallied 11 double-doubles as a freshman and had over 40 blocks and with this past year’s total, already is in the school’s all-time top 10.

In just two seasons, Savanna has already amassed 690 points and 470 rebounds. She averaged 11.9 points and 8.6 rebounds this season despite playing in only 21 of the 32 contests. She added another 26 blocks and four double-doubles on the year.

Savanna averaged over a double-double in her senior season at Milwaukee Vincent High School as she was named the Milwaukee City-Gold Conference’s Player of the Year as well as being on the First Team. She was also a unanimous First-Team selection to the WBCA Division 2 All-State Team. In her prep career, Savanna scored over 1,100 points.

Chelsea Olson (Westby HS), Youngstown State - First Team All-Horizon League

As a freshman, Chelsea was named to the Horizon League’s Freshman All-Conference Team. She then earned Second team laurels last season as a sophomore, before garnering First Team honors this past season.

For the second straight year, Chelsea upped her scoring average from 10 points per game as a sophomore to 12.1 as a junior. She added 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game for the Penguins. In the very first game of the season, Chelsea recorded a triple-double and added five more double-doubles throughout the year. She ranked in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks, minutes, and free throw percentage in the conference.

Chelsea was a prolific scorer while playing at Westby High School. A four-year varsity player, Chelseas tallied 1,695 career points, which is a school record for either boys or girls. As a freshman she was named a Second Team All-Coulee selection before earning First Team honors her last three seasons, including two Player of the Year awards her last two years. She was an Honorable Mention WBCA Division 4 All-State selection as a senior.

Tori Martell (Somerset HS), Montana State - Big Sky Top Reserve of the Year

Year to year, Tori has improved her efficiency and production at Montana State. Only starting four games this season, she made a major impact, averaging over 20 minutes per game. Tori helped lead the Bobcats to a 25-6 record and a Big Sky Conference championship.

Through 31 games, Tori averaged 8.1 points per game. She shot 43% from the field, 42% from three, and 88% from the free throw line. Twice during the year Tori scored a season high 17 points.

Tori was a four-year varsity performer at Somerset High School and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer. She finished with 1,965 career points which landed her thirty-fourth in state history. Tori was a four-time All-Conference selection, earning Second Team honors her freshman season and First Team her final three seasons. In her junior and senior years, Tori was named the Middle Border Conference Player of the Year as well as a WBCA All-State honoree. In her senior year, Tori was also named the WSN Shooter Award winner.

McKenna Warnock (Monona Grove HS), Iowa - Big 10 All-Freshman Team

After a stellar prep career at Monona Grove High School, McKenna carried that momentum over into her freshman season at Iowa. The Hawkeyes finished 23-7 and third in the Big Ten Conference as McKenna averaged nearly 20 minutes per game and recorded three starts.

McKenna was extremely efficient on the basketball court this past year averaging eight points per game. She shot 51% from the field, 43% from beyond the arc, and 71% from the charity stripe. She added 4.5 rebounds and dished out 1.7 assists per game.

During her four years at Monona Grove, McKenna was high profile recruit, receiving over 50 offers to play basketball at the Division I level. She scored 2,311 points, ranking ninth in state history, and hauled in over 950 rebounds, averaging a double-double in her prep career. She was a four-time unanimous First Team All-Badger-South selection. She was a WBCA All-State First Team selection her final three seasons and was named Ms. Basketball in Wisconsin her senior year. During her senior year, she was named the WSN Swing Award winner, a McDonald’s All-American, and the Wisconsin Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year.

Chelsea Brackmann (New Berlin Eisenhower HS), Bradley - First Team All-Missouri Valley

As a freshman, Chelseas was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team. This past year she earned First Team honors for the second consecutive season as well as All-Defensive Team selections.

Chelsea was dominant scoring and rebounding the ball during her four years at Bradley. After averaging 12.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game as a junior, Chelsea tallied 11 points and 8.5 rebounds this past year. Her 53% shooting percentage ranked third in the Missouri Valley Conference and she ranked second in rebounds. In her collegiate career, Chelsea scored 1,108 total points and hauled in a Bradley School record 954 rebounds.

At New Berlin Eisenhower, Chelsea was a part of a WIAA Division 2 State Runner-Up squad her freshman year and a Division 2 State Championship team as a senior. She scored over 1,100 points in her prep career. She was a three-time, First Team All-Woodland-West selection. As a sophomore and junior, Chelsea was a Division 2 WBCA All-State Honorable Mention honoree before earning First-Team All-State honors as a senior.

Ellie Harmeyer (Shoreland Lutheran HS), Belmont - First Team All-Ohio Valley

For the second consecutive season, Ellie garnered First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference. Along with the all-conference honors, Ellie was also named to the prestigious CoSIDA Academic All-American Team.

Ellie put together an incredible senior season at Belmont, leading the nation in five different categories; double-doubles (23), defensive rebounds per game (9.7), total rebounds (381), free throws made (203), and free throws attempted (12.3). She averaged a double-double throughout the season, scoring 19.2 points and hauling in 12.3 rebounds per game. In her illustrious career, Ellie finished with 1,610 points and 1,004 rebounds. She was only the second player in school history to score over 1,500 points and record over 1,000 rebounds in her career.

While at Shoreland Lutheran, Ellie was a four-time All-Metro Classic honoree. She was an Honorable Mention selection her freshman season and earned First Team honors her last three years. As both a sophomore and senior, Ellie was named a WBCA All-State First Team selection and was tabbed with Honorable Mention recognition as a junior. She scored over 1,500 points and hauled in over 750 rebounds in her four year varsity career.

Ariel Kirkwood (Milwaukee Vincent HS), Morehead State - Ohio Valley Defensive Player of the Year

Ariel burst onto the scene as a freshman at Morehead State, starting all 30 games on the year. Along with her Defensive Player of the Year honors, Ariel was named to the Ohio Valley All-Newcomer Team as well being recognized as a Second Team All-Conference selection.

In her very first season, Ariel broke a school record, block 82 shots on the season. Her 2.7 blocks per game led the league. On the year, Ariel averaged 10.2 points and 8.4 rebounds, recording six double-doubles along the way. Her rebounding output ranked second in the conference.

Ariel was a four-year varsity while at Milwaukee Vincent. She was named to the First Team All-Milwaukee City-Gold as a sophomore, junior, and senior, including a Player of the Year selection during her senior campaign. Ariel was also named to the Division 2 WBCA All-State team in her last year. In four years, she scored over 1,400 points, averaging 18.3 per game.

Chloe Wanink (Cameron HS), Wofford - First Team All-Southern

As a sophomore at Wofford, Chloe was named a Second Team All-Southern Conference performer. This season she made the first team squad for the second consecutive season. During her five years at Wofford, Chloe started over 90 games.

This past season Chloe ranked second in the league in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game. Her 47.4% three point shooting percentage led the conference. Chloe came extremely close to recording a 50/40/90 season after shooting 47.8% from the field, 47.4% from three, and 90.9% from the free throw line. Through her college career, Chloe scored 1,773 points, which ranks second in school history. She’s also made the most three point shots in school history with 273.

Just like in college, Chloe was an elite scorer at Cameron High School as well. Her 2,393 prep points ranks seventh all-time in state history, regardless of division. She averaged over 23 points per game in her 101 career games. In each of her four years, Chloe was named a First Team All-Lakeland Central selection. She was also a Division WBCA All-State honoree in each of her final three seasons.

Other Notables


Hannah Whitish, Barneveld

Two other former in-state alumni may not have received any all-conference recognition, but did pass a scoring milestone.

Hannah Whitish earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors last season as a junior and received Second Team laurels during her sophomore campaign. This past year the former Barneveld High School grad and Miss Basketball in Wisconsin surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her collegiate career at Nebraska.

Wausau West graduate Jasmin Samz scored over 1,000 career points in just three seasons at Ball State. This past year she averaged 10 points per game to help lead the Cardinals to a 21-10 record. A 2014-15 WBCA All-State selection, Jasmin was a consistent scorer during her collegiate career and shot over 44% from the field.
