(Editor's Note: WisSports.net basketball writer Mark Miller is using the extra time available due to COVID-19 to research the high school basketball history of some of Wisconsin's larger cities. His All-Time Best series will run on WisSports.net during the next few months).

Eau Claire boasts an incredibly deep and exceptionally proud history when it comes to high school basketball.

Eau Claire High School won public school state titles in 1917, 1927 and 1955, and finished second in 1919, 1944, 1946, 1948 1950, 1962, 1965, 1976 and 1977.

Eau Claire St. Patrick, which became Eau Claire Regis in 1951-52, won private school state crowns in 1947, 1948 and 1952, and finished second in 1954.

And the new kid on the block, so to speak, Eau Claire North finished second in the WIAA Class A State Tournament in 1989. North opened its doors in 1962-63.

Many of those teams competed in the city prior to the selecting of Associated Press All-State teams in 1957.

One most definitely could make the case some of the better players to ever come out of the city graduated before 1957, although certainly Eau Claire produced star players throughout the decades.

The 11 members who comprise the the first and second All-Time Eau Claire teams earned either first, second or third team all-state laurels after 1957, but prior to that time Eau Claire produced standouts such as Bob Barneson (6-3), Whitey Johnson (6-0), Jim Miller (5-10), Chuck Mencel (5-11) and Carl Glocke (6-6), among others. The impressive athletic credentials of those five pre-1957 players came be found below along with profiles on others who starred on the hardwood in Eau Claire.

Criteria
1) In order to be chosen to the first or second all-time team, a player must have earned first, second, third or fourth team all-state honors from either the Associated Press or United Press International.

2) In addition to the accomplishments a player achieved in high school, their college honors in the sport also weigh heavily when selecting the teams.
