Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year. Only teams participating in the fall season are included in the poll.

Division 1

To the surprise of no one, two-time defending state champion Muskego opens as the top-ranked team by a wide margin, as the Warriors are coming off an impressive opening win at Arrowhead. Despite a very tough test from Kenosha Bradford, Franklin is second (and Bradford 10th). The rest of the top five features Oak Creek, Hudson, and Marquette in a division with a significant number of programs that made the move to the alternate spring option.

Division 2

An impressive win over Brookfield Central, the team the Phoenix shared the Greater Metro Conference title with last season, Menomonee Falls is the top-ranked team in Division 2. Defending champion Brookfield East, who did not have a Week 1 game, is third, followed by Waukesha West, Homestead, and Hortonville. The Polar Bears of Hortonville are coming off an outstanding win over West De Pere in Week 1.

Division 3

Whitefish Bay begins the year atop the Division 3 Coaches Poll. Nigel Cheeks scored first-half touchdowns via the run, pass, and punt return as the Blue Dukes knocked off West Bend East 34-6. Despite having to cancel its Week 1 game and the upcoming Week 2 contest, Menasha is second in the poll for now. Grafton, Onalaska, and Pewaukee round out the top five. Baraboo sneaks in at the number ten position after ruining Sauk Prairie's new turf field opening.

Division 4

Catholic Memorial got all it could handle from Wauwatosa West in Week 1, eeking out a 21-19 win. However, the Crusaders were still a clear number one team in the D4 rankings. Lake Mills was second after a 30-0 win over Watertown Luther Prep, as quarterback Adam Moen thew for 231 yards and four touchdowns and ran for a team-high 65 with a score as well. Northeastern Wisconsin teams Xavier, Wrightstown, and Freedom occupy the rest of the top five positions.

Division 5

Lake Country Lutheran holds a slight edge over Amherst in the initial Division 5 Coaches Poll on WSN. Stratford is not far behind in the number three spot. Lakeside Lutheran's dominating 34-6 win over Racine St. Catherine's certainly opened some eyes, as the Warriors ran for 329 yards in the victory and picked off St. Cat's three times.

Division 6

Regis leads the way in Division 6, with Mineral Point coming in second in the first poll of the year. Mondovi is third after putting up big numbers in a win over Osseo-Fairchild, while Darlington's impressive opening victory over River Valley has the Redbirds fourth. Grantsburg rounds out the top five.

Division 7

The Edgar Wildcats opened the season with a 37-6 win over Athens and are rewarded with the top spot in the WisSports.net Division 7 Coaches Poll. Lourdes Academy is second after beating Bonduel 34-6. Potosi/Cassville, Hilbert, and Hurley round out the top five.

8-Player

Luck is the heavy favorite at number one in the initial WisSports.net 8-Player Coaches Poll this week. Newman Catholic is second, followed closely by Belmont. A couple programs new to 8-player are ranked out of the gates, with Gilman coming in at number four after dismantling Bruce 53-0. Auburndale made a late switch to 8-player and debuted with a 76-22 win over Sevastopol.
