Week 2 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Auburndale Eagles

Auburndale has had a very successful move to 8-player football, defeating Sevastopol 76-22 last week before taking on Greenwood this week. After taking a 26-14 lead with just over seven minutes left in the game, it appeared Auburndale was in a good spot to wrap up another victory. However, Greenwood would score twice, including with just 34 seconds left to tie it at 26. Hunter Wright connected with Schuyler Gilhausen to get the Eagles within striking distance, and on the final play of the game, Wright lofted one towards Alex Willfahrt, who leapt, batted the ball up, and caught it while on the ground for the game-winner in a 32-26 victory for Auburndale. Video of the play courtesy of Zaleski Sports is available here.

Elkhorn Elks

After nearly taking down Waterford in Week 1, Elkhorn put up big offensive numbers once again, but this time came out on the right side of the ledger in a 46-41 win over Westosha Central. The Elks trailed 41-34 in the fourth, but got touchdown runs from Connor Lom and Jacob Mogensen  to claim victory. Elkhorn ran for 535 yards as a team, with Mogensen going for 210, Jake Rockweiler had 168, and Logan Page finished with 99. Quarterback Charles Hall added 124 yards through the air while Rockweiler also had a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Northwestern Tigers

Northwestern did not complete any of its four passing attempts, but it mattered little, as the Tigers' running and defense were so dominant the team scored a 41-6 running clock victory over Division 5, fifth-ranked Bloomer. Northwestern rolled up 371 yards, led by 239 from Colin Trautt, controlling things from the outset. The defense was just as impressive, limiting Bloomer to just 75 yards of offense.

Rhinelander Hodags

Rhinelander trailed 14-0 against Mosinee at the end of the first quarter, but the Hodags quickly righted the ship. They'd outscore the Indians 28-7 the rest of the way to claim a 28-21 victory to move to 2-0. Quinn Lamers completed nine-of-14 passes for 193 yards and a couple touchdowns, while Cayden Neri went for 124 yards on the ground.

Wauwatosa West Trojans

The move to the Parkland seems to be serving Tosa West well. The Trojans nearly took down two-time defending state champion Catholic Memorial last week before bowing out 21-19 when they couldn't convert a late two-point conversion. There was no need for late-game surges in Week 2, as Wauwatosa West took it to New Berlin Eisenhower all night in a 48-6 win. West ran 67 offensive plays, all runs, with 432 yards and six scores on the ground. Simon Doyle and Waquon Kelly each went over 100 yards, while Logan Ertl scored three times. The Trojans' defense limited Eisenhower to just 103 yards of offense in the dominating victory.
