SportsEngine.com Athlete of the Week Nominees: Oct. 12-18

Kraig Armstrong, Mauston football: Mauston topped South Central foe Wisconsin Dells for the seventh straight season behind the legs of Kraig. He took a workload of carries, 31, and turned it into 226 yards and four touchdowns in the 45-7 blowout. Kraig wasn't just an offense threat, he was a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, intercepting a pass and recovering a fumble.

Baluck Deang, Edgewood girls tennis: Baluck was dominant again winning her second consecutive individual WIAA Division 2 State title. In her fourth straight state appearance, Baluck took down Xavier's Erika Curtin 6-3, 7-5 in the championship match. She finished with a 13-1 record in her final season.

Alayna Digman, Plattevile girls volleyball: The Platteville girls volleyball secured an SWC conference championship this past week, beating conference foes Dodgeville, Prairie du Chien, and Richland Center. Alayna was proficient in those three victories. In the 3-1 win over Dodgeville, she had 10 kills. She added 15 more in the 3-1 win over Prairie du Chien and another 11 in the 3-0 sweep of Richland Center. Alayna added four blocks and two aces in the wins.

Lauren Haen, Xavier girls golf: For the fourth consecutive season, Lauren competed at the WIAA State Meet. For the first time, she came away with gold. Her 17 over par was enough to win the D2 state title at Blackwolf Run - Meadow Valley in Kohler. With weather limiting the competitors to only nine holes on Friday, the meet was restricted to 27 holes. When Lauren finished her final round, she was in sixth place. Her wait paid off as those in front faltered down the stretch, resulting in Lauren's win.

Ryan Vosters, Freedom boys soccer: Freedom was ranked fourth in last weeks WVCA Boys Soccer poll in Division 2. Ryan helped Freedom continue their dominance with his leg. In an 8-1 win over Denmark, he had three goals and added an assist. To finish the week off, Ryan had two more goals in a 5-0 win over Waupaca.
