Looking Back

Gilman once again proved it is a force to be reckoned with in its first year in 8-Player Football, as the third-ranked Pirates defeated sixth-ranked McDonell Central 44-8 in a running clock. Gilman led 38-0 before McDonell got on the board. Julian Krizan ran for three touchdowns and threw for another for Gilman.

Greenwood ran for 443 yards and seven touchdowns in a 50-6 win over Marion/Tigerton, with Cooper Bredlau going for 186 yards and four scores on just seven carries, while Sully Whitford finished with 175 yards and two touchdowns on eight rush attempts.

Shell Lake got a pair of 200-yard rushers (Sam Negus, 225 yards; Tyler Schunck, 211 yards) in a 69-6 victory against Prairie Farm. Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas scored via kick return, rush, safety, pass, and punt return in a 50-0 shutout of Gillett.

Saint Mary Catholic/Valley Christian quarterback Danny Griffith threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns, completing passes to eight different receivers as the co-op beat Williams Bay 38-18.

It was the rare close game between New Auburn and Alma Center Lincoln on Friday. ACL led 29-6 in the second quarter, but New Auburn would reel off 28 straight points to take a 34-29 lead into the fourth. The Hornets of Lincoln would score to go up 35-34, but New Auburn got the last laugh, as Braden Johnson ran in from seven yards out to give the Trojans a 42-35 win.

Luck's dominance continued, though it wasn't easy in a 40-18 win over Clayton. The score was just 14-6 at halftime before the Cardinals pulled away. Wyatt Jensen had another nice day, scoring three rushing touchdowns, recording two interceptions on defense, and returning a kickoff 55 yards for a score.

Looking Ahead

No marquee, ranked match-ups this week, but lots of games between teams jockeying for position. Luck and Prairie Farm were two of the top teams in the first few years of the revamped 8-Player that started in 2012, but while Luck has remained the dominant force, Prairie Farm has dropped off a bit. The teams meet up on Thursday in Luck.

Newman Catholic's strong season will look to continue at Port Edwards, who is tied for second in the CWC-East. It is a 3 pm kickoff in Port Edwards on Friday.

Siren hosts Shell Lake, who is coming off a huge performance last week. The Dragons of Siren have played just two games to this point.

The high-powered Saint Mary Catholic/Valley Christian passing game will go up against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah. Florence is a half-game ahead of Wabeno/Laona in the MONLPC-West standings as the teams meet up Friday.

Star of the Week: Evan Loduha, Three Lakes

Three Lakes moved to 2-2 on the year with a 34-8 victory over Wabeno/Laona, the first league loss for Wabeno/Laona this season. Evan Loduha was all over the place for the Bluejays, carrying the ball 31 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw a short touchdown pass and made a big impact on defense, recording three interceptions.
