VNN Athlete of the Week: October 26 - November 1

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of October 26 through November 1. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Oct. 26 - Nov. 1

Bill Breska, Arcadia Soccer: The Arcadia boys soccer team is making their first ever trip to state and Bill played a huge role in making that happen. In a sectional semifinal match with Barron, he scored the tie-breaking goal as Arcadia won 2-1. Bill followed it up with a hat trick as Raiders topped Columbus Catholic 4-1 to punch their ticket to the state tournament.

Simon Doyle, Wauwatosa West football: Simon did a little bit of everything and did it well as Wauwatosa West topped Brookfield Central. Offensively he had a team high 16 carries for 209 yards and two touchdowns. HIs touchdown runs were both big plays as they were from 42 and 89 yards out. Defensively Simon was all over the field, racking up 11 tackles and forcing two fumbles.

Karissa Kaminski, Howards Grove girls volleyball: Howards Grove is looking to win back-to-back state titles in girls volleyball and Karissa did everything she could to make that happen over the two sectional matches. In the sectional semifinal matchup with Iola-Scandinavia, she had a team high 11 kills and added five digs and two aces in the 3-0 sweep. Karissa then added another 15 kills, five digs, and two aces as the Tigers swept Wabeno/Laona to ensure their spot at state.

Kayci Martensen, Southwestern Co-op cross country: Just a junior, Kayci has had amazing success in her cross country career. She came into her junior year as the defending Division 2 champion after finishing third her freshman season. Kayci didn't look back as she ran away from the competition to win back-to-back Division 2 individual titles. She finished the race, which took place at Colby, with a time of 18:09:29, nearly 28 seconds better than the second place finisher.

Joshua Truchon, West Allis Hale cross country: Joshua was making his third straight appearance at the state meet hoping to improve upon his past performances. Last season as a junior, Joshua finished fourth, which was better than his ninth place finish as a sophomore. He ran the course, with took place at the Mike Mulrooney Cross Country Course in Hartland, with a time of 15:18:3. That time paced all others as he took home a Division 1 title, finishing over 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
