VNN Athlete of the Week: November 2-8

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of November 2 through 8. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Nov. 2-8

Daniel Dreifuerst, The Prairie School boys soccer: Daniel helped lead The Prairie School boys soccer team to their seventh state title in school history this past weekend. The WIAA Division 3 State Tournament took place at Kewaskum High School where the Hawks matched up with Arcadia in the semifinals. Daniel scored the only goal in the 1-0 win. They then matched up with St. Lawrence Seminary in the Division 3 title match where Daniel dominated, scoring two goals and adding an assist in the 4-0 shutout.

Bryce Frank, Marshall football: Marshall captured the conference championship in the inaugural season of the Eastern Suburban Conference this past weekend by beating Waterloo 14-2. Bryce's big play ability shined in the offensive struggle on the field. He rushed 12 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, including a 77 yard touchdown run. Bryce also added a 70 yard touchdown reception, showcasing his big play ability.

Emma Johnson, Luxemburg-Casco girls volleyball: Luxemburg-Casco repeated as WIAA Division 2 State champs this past weekend at Kaukauna High School. Emma was a huge assist to the repeat gold. First a semifinal matchup with Saint Croix Falls, she had 36 assists and 13 digs in the 3-0 sweep. Emma added another 32 assists and six digs as Luxemburg-Casco swept Lakeside Lutheran in the title match to secure the gold.

Katelyn Lefler, Sussex Hamilton girls volleyball: The Sussex Hamilton girls volleyball squad was making its second ever trip to state, its first since 1986. Katelyn played an exceptional two matches beginning first in a 3-0 sweep of Sauk Prairie in the semifinals. She had 10 kills, 11 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks. Katelyn was even better in the title match against Burlington, recording 10 kills, 23 assists, 12 digs, and four blocks as the Chargers won 3-1 to capture their first ever WIAA State title.

Jacob Malak, Kettle Moraine boys volleyball: Jacob and the rest of the Kettle Moraine boys volleyball team looked to take home the program's first ever state title this past weekend, hosted at Burlington High School. Earning the quarterfinal bye, the Lasers took on New Berlin United in the semifinals. Jacob had 11 kills, seven digs, four aces, and a block in the 3-0 sweep. Marquette awaited Kettle Moraine in the state title and Jacob upped his game. He finished with 18 kills, four digs, and three blocks in the 3-1, gold-clinching victory.
