Week 7 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Freedom Irish

Freedom and Wrightstown have battled it out for many years, including as two of the top teams in the North Eastern Conference the past few seasons. League bragging rights were on the line Friday in a matchup that certainly lived up to the hype. Wrightstown scored first and led 10-3 at halftime, but Freedom got a touchdown pass from Jackson Higgins to Dylan Bougie to tie things up in the third quarter. It remained that way all the way to the end of regulation, as the teams went to overtime. In the extra period, Owen VanCamp connected on a 26-yard field goal that gave Freedom a 13-10 victory in a thrilling regular season finale.

Martin Luther Spartans

Lake Country Lutheran's amazing 46-game conference winning streak that had spanned back to 2013 came to an end on Friday, as the Lightning were taken down by Martin Luther 21-16. Martin Lake Country scored first but Martin Luther would rally to take a 15-8 halftime advantage. Leading 16-15 in the fourth quarter, Lake Country Lutheran had a chance to add to its lead, but on a fourth and goal from inside the one, the Lightning committed a penalty and then could not convert, handing the ball back to Martin Luther. The Spartans took advantage, going 95 yards down the field to score on a Brady Hoppert to Jacob Hartlaub pass with just over two minutes left, as Martin Luther took a lead it would not relinquish. The win gives Martin Luther the Metro Classic Conference title.

Medford Raiders

First place in the Great Northern Conference was on the line in the WSN Game of the Week, but like last season, Medford's ground-and-pound rushing attack and stingy defense were too much for Rhinelander, as the Raiders pulled away for a 24-7 victory. Emett Grunwald ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns, while Aiden Gardner added 86 yards and Peyton Kuhn contributed 67 as Medford rolled up 352 yards on the ground on 58 carries. With the win, Medford claims a second straight outright Great Northern Conference title.

Muskego Warriors

It was a highly-anticipated replacement game Friday afternoon, as Division top-ranked Muskego met up with third-ranked Hudson in Sauk Prairie. However, it quickly turned into a blowout, as Muskego dominated throughout in a 54-7 victory. Muskego's ground game was too much for the Hudson defense, with the Warriors going for 421 yard and seven touchdowns on 47 carries. Josh Bulski had his way inside, carrying the ball 17 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Alex Current hit on some big runs on the outside, going for 125 yards and two touchdowns on just eight attempts, adding a 34-yard leaping touchdown reception as well. The defense limited Hudson to just 146 yards of offense, and 66 of that came in the fourth quarter against Muskego's backups when the score was already out-of-hand.

Spencer/Columbus Catholic

Spencer/Columbus Catholic is no stranger to playing close games, with most of this season's contests decided by one or two scores. Taking on unbeaten and Division 5 second-ranked Amherst, the team had yet another close one, as neither side led by more than one score at any point in the game. S/CC took a 22-21 lead early in the fourth, only to see Amherst match the score to go up 29-22. On the first play after Amherst got on the board, Eden Jacobson ran 70 yards for a touchdown and then converted the two-point run to put Spencer/Columbus Catholic up 30-29, and they held on to win by that score. Jacobson finshed with 161 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, adding five catches for 187 yards and two more touchdowns, while quarterback Gage Stratman completed ten-of-12 passes for 136 yards and two scores as well.
