Schreiber drops career-high 36; other news from the weekend

Schreiber scores a career-best 36 points

Kimberly senior Maddy Schreiber tallied a career-best 36 points an 82-63 win over West De Pere on Saturday. The 6-foot wing/guard shot 16-for-23 from the field, made three of five three-pointers, and added eight rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block in the victory. Sophomore MaKenzie Drout (5-9) and junior Emma Kilpatrick (5-8) added 16 and 14 points, respectively. Schreiber, a UW-Green Bay signee, is averaging 22.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game for the undefeated Papermakers (10-0, 7-0 in FVA), ranked No. 2 in the Week 2 WisSports.net Coaches Poll in Division 1. West De Pere got a team-high 20 points from 5-foot-8 senior Alexa Thomson (UW-Stevens Point commit). The Phantoms, ranked No. 10 in Division 2 last week, drop to 6-3 overall. 

Winnebago Lutheran knocks off Waupun

Winnebago Lutheran, ranked No. 5 in Division 4, moved to 7-0 on the season after knocking off previously unbeaten and D3 No. 2 Waupun, 51-49 on Saturday. Senior Geneva Hewitt (5-8) led the Vikings with 16 points and added four rebounds and three assists in the win. Fellow seniors Rylee Loehr (5-6) and Kaylee Frey (5-11) also reached double figures, tallying 11 and 10 points, respectively. Coach Eric Schraufnagel and the Vikings also got nine points from 5-foot-8 senior guard Alayna Suprenand. Waupun was led by 5-foot-9 guard Abbie Aalsma, a Division I Illinois State commit, who finished with 23 points while shooting 5-for-13 from behind the arc. Freshman Kayl Peterson (6-0) added 10 points in the loss for coach Tim Aalsma and the Warriors, 7-1 overall and 6-0 in East Central. 

Greenfield over South Milwaukee

Greenfield handed South Milwaukee its first loss of the season on Friday, defeating the Rockets 60-49 after falling to them by three points (56-53) earlier in the week. The Hustlin’ Hawks were led by 5-foot-10 sophomore Allison Hampel, who finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and an assist. Fellow sophomore Sophie Gruber (6-0) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and two steals for coach Jack Hervert and Greenfield, 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the Woodland East. South Milwaukee, ranked No. 4 in Week 2 WSN Coaches Poll in D2, drops to 9-1 on the season and 5-1 in the Woodland East. Junior Mia Johnson (5-7) led the Rockets with 20 points in the loss. 

Additions to 1,000-Point Club

Emily LaChapell, Appleton East – LaChapell eclipsed 1,000 career points in the Patriots’ 66-31 victory against Oshkosh West. The 5-foot-11 wing/guard scored a game-high 27 points in the win. LaChapell, who holds a number of Division I offers, is averaging 20.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game for coach (and father) Joe LaChapell and the Patriots (8-1, 6-0 in the FVA), ranked No. 2 in the Week 2 Division 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll. 

Teya Maas, Watertown – Maas, a 6-foot forward, scored her 1,000th career point in a 48-28 win over Edgewood on Tuesday. The NJCAA Division II Bryant & Stratton College signee finsihed with 17 points in the game. Maas is averaging 15.3 points per game for coach Matt Stollberg and the Goslings, 5-2 overall. 

Olivia Miron, St. Croix Falls – Miron, a 5-foot-11 forward, went over 1,000 career points in Friday’s 55-42 win over Barron. The senior finished with 12 points in the victory. Miron is averaging 13 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game for coach Angie Maternowsky and the Saints (4-1, 4-1 in HON), ranked No. 4 in last week’s Division 3 WSN Coaches Poll. 

Olivia Tinder, Turner – Tinder, a 5-foot-7 guard, scored her 1,000th career point in Friday’s 55-34 win over Williams Bay. She finished the game with 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Tinder is averaging 12.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game for coach Nick Faralli and the Trojans, 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Rock Valley.
