VNN Athlete of the Week: December 14-20

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of December 14 through 20. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Dec. 14-20

Caden Brandt, Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston boys hockey: Brandt was outstanding on the ice as the Reedsburg co-op boys hockey team took home a pair of wins last week. First in a 9-0 shutout of Viroqua, he netted a pair of goals and assisted on another. The sophomore forward then recorded his second hat trick of the season in a 4-0 victory over Baraboo/Portage.

Drew Biber, Cedarburg boys basketball: Biber was exceptional as Cedarburg went 4-0 last week, including a pair of wins and championship at their home Doeden's Tournament. First in a 72-34 win over Port Washington, he had 12 points and seven rebounds. He followed it up with 19 points and 17 rebounds in the 73-43 win over Slinger. The Purdue football commit then added two more double-doubles in the tournament, first in a 55-48 win over Germantown, scoring 16 points and adding 10 rebounds. Biber finished the week with 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 63-62 thriller of a win over Notre Dame in the championship game.

Bowdy Dempsey, Cashton boys basketball: The Cashton boys basketball squad has started the season off 6-0 and had a statement early season win last week. Early in the week, the Eagles beat Royall 45-28 behind a game high 17 points from Dempsey. The junior guard then had 27 points as the Eagles took down previously unbeaten and the top ranked team in Division 5 in the WSN Coaches Poll, Blair-Taylor by a score of 61-57.

Emily La Chapell, Appleton East girls basketball: La Chapell put together a pair of 20 point outings last week and in doing so, crossed a scoring milestone in her career. First in an 88-57 win over Appleton North, the Division 1 recruit poured in 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. She followed it up with a game high 27 points in a 66-31 win over Oshkosh West. La Chapell scored her 1,000th point during that blowout victory.

Olivia Tinder, Turner girls basketball: The Turner girls basketball team won a trio of games last week behind the strong play of Tinder. In a 53-24 win over Big Foot, she scored nine points and hauled in seven rebounds. Tinder followed that up with 14 points and 15 rebounds in a 56-40 win over Clinton. The 5'7" senior guard finished the week with 14 points and five rebounds in a 55-34 victory over Williams Bay. Like La Chapell, Tinder surpassed the 1,000 point mark in her prep career in the final game of the week.
