VNN Athlete of the Week: January 4-10

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of January 4 through 10. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Jan. 4-10

Mackenzie Holzwart, Howards Grove girls basketball: Holzwart had a big week on and off the court as the Panthers took home three wins and she announced her college plans. In the first of three games, the senior guard tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists in the 58-47 win over Mishicot. She then had 11 points. six rebounds, and four assists in a 53-38 win over Manitowoc Lutheran and finished the week with 18 points, five assists, and six steals in a 75-35 win over Ozaukee. In the middle of the week, Holzwart announced her commitment to NCAA Division II Northern Michigan.

Amayiah Neilon, Greenfield girls basketball: Greenfield had a home and home series with Shorewood last week and won each contest. Neilon was a catalyst in both games. In the first game, she had 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and seven steals in the 78-60 win. The talented sophomore then recorded a triple double in an 88-54 win, tallying 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Leah Parker, Hudson girls hockey: The Hudson Raiders have started the season off to a 6-1 start and Parker has been a key reason why. Last week in a 5-3 win over St. Croix Valley, she netted two goals. The 4'11" junior then followed that up with a goal and an assist as Hudson shut out Lakeshore 3-0.

Gunnar DeCleene, Bay Port boys basketball: Bay Port secured a pair of impressive victories last week over Fox River Classic foe Notre Dame and non-conference opponent West De Pere. DeCleene was excellent in the 88-82 victory over Notre Dame, scoring a game high 35 points and adding four assists and five steals. He followed it up with 10 points in a tight 65-62 win over West De Pere.

Seth Trimble, Menomonee Falls boys basketball: Menomonee Falls has continued to impress this season, racking up great wins, including two last week. Trimble has been excellent all season and that continued last week. In a 68-67 win over Wauwatosa West, the Division 1 recruit had 29 points and five rebounds. He followed it up with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 84-70 win over Division 1, second-ranked Brookfield Central.
