VNN Athlete of the Week: January 11-17

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of January 11 through 17. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Jan. 11-17

Bailey Butler, Black Hawk girls basketball: The Black Hawk girls basketball team extended their win streak to 64 games this past week with two victories. Butler was the catalyst as she has been for four years now. In the 85-47 win over Argyle, she had 31 points, six rebounds, 10 assists, and nine steals. The UW-Green Bay commit followed that up with a career high 36 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 68-51 win over Albany. She is averaging just over 30 points per game this season.

Macy Donarski, Aquinas girls basketball: In her sophomore season, Donarski has excelled for the Aquinas girls basketball team. In three wins last week, she averaged 20 points, seven assists and four steals per game. First in a 73-60 win over Holmen, she had 22 points, nine assists and six steals. Donarski followed that up with 20 points, seven assists, and four steals in a 73-33 win over Tomah. The Division 1 recruit finished the week with 18 points, five assists, and three steals in a tight 50-48 win over previously undefeated Prairie du Chien.

Zac Johnson, River Falls boys basketball: Johnson has had an incredible senior season thus far and continued that last week as River Falls picked up a pair of victories. Friday they squared off with Big Rivers opponent Chippewa Falls and came away with a 75-59 win. Johnson tallied 21 points and six rebounds. The NCAA Division II Augustana commit then had 32 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-54 win over Monona Grove at the Midwest Players Classic.

Antuan Nesbitt, The Prairie School boys basketball: The Prairie School has started off the season 10-1 with their lone loss coming to undefeated Racine St. Catherine's. Nesbitt has been a huge key to that success. In an 83-61 win over Shoreland Lutheran, he scored 27 points and added seven rebounds and five assists. Nesbitt followed that up with 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 77-71 win over Martin Luther. The NCAA Division II Northern Michigan commit finished the week with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 77-67 win over Kenosha St. Joseph.

Brady Welsch, Saint Mary's Springs boys hockey: The Springs hockey team has started off 18-1 on the season. Last week, the Ledgers picked up three wins behind the strong play of Welsch. In an 8-0 win over Oshkosh, he netted two goals and had another two assists. He followed that up with two goals and another assist in a 4-0 win over Fond du Lac. Welsch finished the week with a lone goal in a 5-2 win over The University School. On the season, the 5'6" senior has 34 goals which ranks him second in the state according to Wisconsin Prep Hockey.
